Mount Rainier is an active stratovolcano located 87 km southeast of Seattle in Pierce County, Washington. At 4,392 meters, it is the most prominent mountain in the contiguous United States and Cascade Volcanic Arc. The mountain and surrounding area are protected within Mount Rainier National Park.
