Notas do Editor
On 27 July 2012, the eyes of the world will be on London as the Host City of the London 2012 Games – the greatest celebration of sport and culture in the world.
How do you think the London 2012 Games will help to promote world peace and cultural understanding?
For more information on the history of the Olympic Truce go to the fact file
There is evidence to suggest that the Truce was respected with only a small number of exceptions for more than 1,200 years. It has therefore been the longest peace accord in history. The Olympic Truce was revived for the modern Games in 1992. Since then the International Olympic Committee has asked each host nation to declare a Truce.
You will find some follow up discussion and debate ideas based on the film in the Get Set for the Olympic Torch Educators area.
This could be an engaging and ‘real’ project for the Student Voice Committee to spearhead. Or, you could ask for volunteers to form a special ‘Truce team’ to get talking and planning about the Olympic Truce and its relevance to London 2012 and their own lives.
