Peter claimed that he would lay down his life for Jesus, but Jesus responded that before the rooster crows Peter would disown him three times. Andrew, Peter's brother, was one of the two who followed Jesus after hearing John speak. Andrew then found Peter and told him they had found the Messiah, bringing Peter to meet Jesus.

7. 37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow
you now? I will lay down my life for you.”
38 Then Jesus answered, “Will you really
lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell
you, before the rooster crows, you will
disown me three times!

23. 40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of
the two who heard what John had said and
who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing
Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and
tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is,
the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon
son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which,
when translated, is Peter).
