2. I was gazing out at Lake Michigan, looking for inspiration, when
an unexpected visual vista appeared. "Awww!" I yelled.
My privileged eyes focused on a flock of Canadian geese with
their almost grown, but still can't fly, goslings, moseying across
my lawn.
What a spectacular sight.

3. In my socks, wet grass and
all, I stealthily darted
toward the lake, so they
wouldn't hear or see me.
Sneaking up on them, I
aimed and was ready to
shoot.
That’s when the fun began!

4. My wonderful neighbor, not seeing me, came running towards the
geese, his noisy weed-whacker flailing in the air.
I was trying not to scare them, yet I began waving my arms and
yelling. Like he could hear me over the whacker buzz!
I was still trying to get my shot, with my camera, that is!

5. Here's the funny part.
The geese were just standing
there.
My neighbor and I were their
entertainment!

7. Wisely practical, my neighbor was bemoaning the trail they leave
behind in their waddling wake.
We have shared the joy of stepping in the mountain of droppings one
might think would help fertilize our lawns.
But try hundreds of geese in your yard. The joy is short-lived, I'll
assure you.

9. But for a moment, my appreciation of beauty and excellence
prevailed. I was so grateful.
Just like a member of the their family, up close and personal.
(I'd be the one who can use inside plumbing.)

on a wild goose chase. What do you think
wild geese are for anyway?” ~Will Rogers
