These are giant panda pictures.
2. Habitat
They live in central China
mountains between
3,600- 10,500 feet.
Because they have to eat
bamboo.
3. Physical description
They are black and white bears.
They have black fur on their ears, eye patches, muzzle , legs
and shoulders.
They have special thumbs for holding bamboo.
They have molar teeth for eating bamboo.
4. Size
Full- grown giant pandas weigh 90-115kg and
about 1. 5m long.
At birth, baby pandas name is cub and they
weigh 100-175g and are less than 15cm long.
Males weigh more than females.
5. Food
Their main food is bamboo.
Pandas eat other types of food.
For example apples, carrots, sweet
potatoes.
6. Life Cycle
Newborns are pink and
begin to show the typical
black and white coloring
after 2 weeks.
Cubs are blind, hairless,
and helpless.
Wild giant pandas live with
their mothers for the first
two years of their life.
They live 18- 20 years in
the wild and can live25-
30 years in captivity.
7. Life Style A wild panda spends much of
its day resting, feeding and
seeking food.
Unlike other bears, giant
pandas do not sleep during
winter.
They live alone.
They avoid other pandas,
except during breeding
seasons and while the
mothers are raising their
cubs.

endangered in the
world.
There are about
1,600 pandas left
in the wild.
More than 300
pandas live in
zoos and
breeding centers
around the world,
mostly in China.
9. What type of environment do they
live in?
Giant Pandas live in
the mountain
ranges in Central
China’s Sichuan
Province. Most live
inside the slice of
South to North
bamboo forests.

They live in
hollow
trees or
out-of-the-
way
crevices.

12. What does the Giant Panda eat?
• Bamboo is the main
food in it’s diet and
they also drink lots
and lots of water.
• They can eat 13-20kg
of Bamboo a day, and
because they eat so
much, they poop 100
times a day! WOW!!

13. Where does it get its food?
• They get food from Bamboo forests.
• They are consumers because they eat
plants and can’t make their own
energy.

14. Why are Giant Pandas endangered?
• Smaller Habitat
• Humans cut down the bamboo trees, and make farms and
villages.
• Humans have cut down their forest, which destroyed their home.
• Less Food
• They need bamboos every times, if they don’t they will die.
• Humans have cut down their forest, which took away their food.
• It takes a long time for bamboo to grow back.
• Dangerous hunters
• They are victims of hunters, getting caught by the hunting traps
such as dears.
• Low Birth Rate
• There are only 5 days to make “ One” Giant Panda baby in a year.

15. What efforts are being taken to
save the Pandas?
• Set up Conservation Park for reproducing
Giant Panda, and take care for their
babies until they grow up.
• International cooperating to share
resources and experience to protect Giant
Pandas

save the Pandas?
• They are doing a better job at patrolling
against people who are killing the pandas
and cutting down the bamboo forests.
• They are increasing the area of the Giant
Panda habitat and protecting it.
• Stop hunting by law.

17. Why should we save the Giant Panda?
• The Giant Panda is better known and loved
species in the world and one of the strongest
symbols of nature conservation.
• By working together save the panda, we are
actually helping preserve plants, landscapes, other
animals that need to be there in order for the
pandas to survive.
• The panda’s habitat is also home for millions of
people.
• The Giant Pandas have a very important cultural
icon for Chinese people.

Giant Pandas?
