2. INTRODUCTION
With the emergence and development of the city as a social and political
organization the dance has been also developed. These types of urban dances were
born in the core of large cities, from collective impulses from the social sectors.
This types of dances are been increased over time and even more so with the
advancement of technology, and the emergence of the great mass media such as
television and radio.

Origin
Hip-hop isn’t only a dance, it is a cultural and artistic movement that emerged in
America in the 1960s between young Latinos and African Americans in popular
neighborhoods of New York such us Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn.
How does it get to Spain?
It came to Spain in 1980 due to the presence of US military bases in Spain. The
soldiers followed the culture of hip-hop and listened rap in the military bases.

3. Components of the hip-hop:
In hip-hop we can distinguish four elements:
 Mcing/ rap: The MC (master of ceremonies) is
the person who raps, produces rhymes about a
specific subject, and sings or recites it.
 Djing: The DJ is the one who makes the musical base
in a mixing board.
 Breaking or breakdance: The dance that goes with the Rap music.
 Graffiti: It is the art of hip-hop, is the visual communication. It consists of
paint with aerosols a text on a wall; it is usually the artist's signature but
can also be abstract texts.

4. BREAKDANCE
It is the way to dance rap. Those who practice it are called b-boys and b-girls and
they are grouped and dance one by one or in pairs. The battles of breakdance are
really known, they are clashes in which the different movements are scored to
know the winner.
It is a dance that combines a series of aerobic and rhythmic movements.
Highlights 4 movements:
Top-Rocking (dance above): it consists in follow the rhythm of the music and
move doing some pre-established steps and exercises. The hands are a very
important part. The falls and downs to the ground level are called drops and to
introduce the footwork, some transitions are used, called bogging.
Foot-working (work with the feet): They are dance steps that are done on the
floor with the hands and feet. In the simplest steps you have to support most of
your weight on your feet, and in the most complicated in your knees and arms.

5. Powermoves (power movements): They are continuous movements where force is
applied, spins, balance or speed.
Freezes (you freeze in a posture): The person freezes for a moment to the
rhythm of music. They require a lot of balance.
