Michael Dinwiddie is an accomplished playwright, screenwriter, and musician who served as my advisor at NYU\’s Gallatin School, and continues to be a valuable resource and great friend to this day.
1. To Whom it May Concern:
It is my great pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Mr. Clarence B.
Rivette. I have known Clarence for five years, as his advisor, as a student in my course
Poets in Protest: Footsteps to Hip Hop, and as a friend with whom I continue to respond
about politics, art, literature, and urban studies. An impressive and disciplined individual,
Clarence was always prepared in his coursework, on time and present for class, and an
active participant in very heated classroom debates. Always respectful of his peers,
Clarence never shied away from expressing his own opinions. He often analyzed an
argument in a way that brought clarity to the discussion at hand. His writing reflects a
level of proficiency and intellectual depth that well equips him for the legal field.
In his extracurricular activities, Clarence was a legal courier in high school, and worked
as both a gallery assistant and as an editorial assistant while at NYU. His internship
reports have been laudatory, praising his eagerness to learn and his positive approach to
problem solving. His volunteer work with the Fortune Society, which involved tutoring
ex-offenders in preparation for GED testing, his work in music productions, and his
general creative drive are clear indications of his desire to make a positive contribution to
the world in which he lives. Clarence is also a talented musician who has performed,
traveled and maintained his studies and professional responsibilities at the same time. He
is accustomed to working hard, and I have no doubt that he will excel in whatever he
chooses to pursue.
Sincerely,
Michael D. Dinwiddie
