We’re going to touch over four sites– Facebook, Youtube, LinkedIn and Twitter.
Facebook is a social networking service and website launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook Inc. As of February 2012, Facebook has more than 845 million active users. Users must register before using the site, after which they may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages.

YouTube is a video-sharing website, created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005, on which users can upload, view and share videos. Displays a wide variety of user-generated video content, including movie clips, TV clips, and music videos, as well as amateur content such as video blogging and short original videos.

LinkedIn is a business-related social networking site. Founded in December 2002 and launched in May 2003,it is mainly used for professional networking. As of 3 November 2011, LinkedIn reports more than 135 million registered users in more than 200 countries and territories The site is available in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Romanian, Russian, Turkish, Japanese, Czech and Polish Quantcast reports LinkedIn has 21.4 million monthly unique U.S. visitors and 47.6 million globally. In June 2011, LinkedIn had 33.9 million unique visitors, up 63 percent from a year earlier.

Today we’re going to go over Twitter basics and talk about how you can start using Twitter here at the conference.

Signing up is easy to do– just go to Twitter.com and sign up in the right hand corner. After a short verification process, you’re all set.
Writing your first tweet is easy– click on “Home” and then in the upper left hand corner, you can “compose a new tweet.”

Direct messages: Definition: A personal message sent directly to someone who follows you or sent directly to you from someone you follow. Where it appears for the sender: In the sender's Direct messages (accessible by clicking on the person icon). A DM (direct message) will disappear if the recipient deletes it. Where it appears for the recipient: In the recipient's Direct messages. Will disappear if the sender deletes it. Places it will never appear: In any public timeline or public search.
