2. Avaaz.org is a new global online advocacy community that brings people-powered politics to global decision-making. Avaaz (meaning "voice" in several languages) was launched in Jan ‘07 with a simple democratic mission: “organize citizens everywhere to help close the gap between the world we have and the world most people want.”
3. In 3 years, Avaaz has grown to 5.5 million members from every country on earth, becoming the largest global web movement in history. Avaaz on average sends one email per week offering a chance to take quick action on an urgent global issue. People take action by adding their names to virtual petitions, building awareness by forwarding issue information to friends via social media or email, or by donating much needed funds.

Raised over $10 million online, including millions in funding and high tech support for human rights and democracy advocates in Burma, Zimbabwe, Tibet, Iran, Haiti and more. Organized almost 10,000 rallies, flashmobs, vigils, marches and other online events—giving a massive boost to the climate change movement.
