The document evaluates the ways a student's media product uses and develops conventions of real horror films. It summarizes that the product: [1] Kills someone at the beginning, [2] Kills a man instead of a woman, [3] Does not show the killer, and [4] Has no one try to escape, developing conventions to make the product different but better than if it followed the same conventions.
The student believes Dimension Films would be a suitable distributor because [2] They distribute similar horror films that were financially successful and share themes, storylines, settings, and characters with the student's product.
2. In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
In our horror film we have developed typical horror film
conventions.
What we have done to develop them is:
Someone getting killed in the beginning
A man getting killed instead of the women
The killer is not seen at all
Nobody tried to escape
We did this to bring variety and make it different from all the
same conventions. By developing the conventions we
have made a product 100 times better than if it was the
same.
4. What kind of media institution might distribute
your media product and why?
I have done some research into films that are similar to
ours and Dimensions Films have similar products to ours
which are mostly horror. They have the same theme such
as scream, all the scary movies and Halloween II which
have a lot of similarities to ours in terms of
storyline, setting and characters.
Also the films released such as Scream, Scary movie, and
Piranha have made millions at box office. This is why I
think Dimension Films would buy our product because it
is similar to other films that have been successful and I
believe our film can follow suit.
