Evaluation- Question 2
1.
2. Stereotypes:
I personally believe that my magazine could possibly be considered
as a stereotypical magazine within the Rock genre. This is because
typically in the Rock genre of magazines the fonts are normally
bold and grungy which is exactly what I have chosen to do.
Another typical trait for this genre of music magazine is
maintaining a house style which is again something that have done
within my magazine. I think that the look that I have created with my
models is another typical trait for a rock magazine as the band that
are used in these magazines often have that soft grunge look that
my band has. For example the checked shirt and leather jacket are
extremely stereotypical.
3. Age:
My main age range stretched from the age of thirteen to twenty
meaning that as well as attracting younger readers I also had to
take into consideration about the older readers. After researching
about NME and Kerrang! I noticed that their target audience was
around the same as mine so that helped to give me a rough idea
of what people that age look for in a rock magazine. As I am in the
age range I am appealing to and I am extremely interested in rock
music which made it easier to know how I wanted my magazine to
look like. I decided to make my band new to the music industry
and a younger band as I wanted them to connect with my target
audience and with them being young I felt that it would help.
4. Gender:
The main proportion of my target audience are female. However, I
wanted to create something that would appeal to both a male and
female audience as most of the people in my sixth form are
females so the survey could have been biased. I believe that the
colour scheme I have used will attract both male and female
readers as they are not too masculine or too feminine. In order to
attract both genders I used three models who did not just look the
part but they also are extremely attractive which is an additive to
how well my magazine would sell.
5. Social Class:
The price that I decided to give my magazine the price of £2.00.
However, on my contents page I gave readers the option of
subscribing to Revive Magazine for just £5 per month. The
reasoning behind the pricing of my magazine is because my target
audience is of course mainly teenagers, meaning that I needed to
make the magazine affordable for students. I have also made the
point of dressing my models in affordable but fashionable looking
clothing to show my readers that to look fashionable they will not
have to spend a lot of money to do so.
6. Inspirational and Aspirational:
I feel that to a certain extent my magazine can be classed as
inspirational as my target audience may find inspiration from
Fading Fault due to the fact that they are extremely young and
have found success at their age. My product is most certainly
aspirational as the band that I have formed have evolved from a
working class background and have managed to find success
quite quickly in their time in the music industry.
