Location-based Services (LBSs) are IT services for providing information that has been created, compiled, selected, or filtered taking into consideration the current locations of the users or those of other persons or mobile objects.

In this tutorial, the state of art of mobile location based services (LBS) will be explored in terms of technologies, standards and implementations. There are five major parts in this proposed tutorial. Within the first part, an introduction to LBS is presented along with an overview of the growing LBS market. Two examples of LBS, E911 and telematics, are emphasized. In the second part, LBS from a network operator perspective is discussed with a survey of wireless location technologies, the exploration of location management in cellular network, and LBS standards activities. The architecture and operation of the network-dependent LBS control plane of CDMA2000 and UMTS networks are reviewed, respectively. In the third part, the IP-based LBS user plane is discussed from a service provide perspective. An overview of the related standards by OMA and 3GPP2 is given and the principles of LBS user plane are illustrated from multiple application scenarios. In the fourth part, several implementation issues of LBS are discussed as well as development examples. In the fifth part, the security and privacy issues of mobile LBS are discussed from an end user perspective along with related practices and regulations. Finally, the further works and standard activities for LBS are presented.

A recent study commissioned by the Bavarian Regulatory Authority for Commercial Broadcasting (BLM) and carried out by strategy consultant Goldmedia has found that location-based services in Germany are providing a wide variety of offers, have an increasing user base and are also likely to experience high rates of growth. At the end of 2012, there were 181 location-based services (LBS) providers in Germany. That number is expected to increase, with experts predicting that almost every app will incorporate an LBS function in the future. One in four Germans are already using a service of this kind.

Today mobile is very useful thing. It is a need of everybody. In every Era “Location†is a strong component of “Mobility†Location based services LBS are services offered using mobile phone by taking mobile's geographical location. The proposed system is providing location based services and offers with respect to user interest. Vendors are allowed to post and edit an advertisement for users. The system contains various modules such as advertising , Tourist place, Parking place etc. It also provides user's feedback, ranking based suggestion in secured manner. The purpose of this system is to notify the user based on their preferences and their interest in the particular area and notify them using android application. This will lead to lower advertising costs and expenditures also save the time of user for finding the located area of ads with help of GPS. Sagar B. Gite | Harshada A. Gavali | Ajinkya S. Abstract As the inception of mobile app development began, various applications of Augmented Reality that was once only restricted under the avenue of personal computers extended its domain to mobile applications and currently is used in the wide fields of gaming, education, navigation and so on. The exceptional data processing abilities which is possessed by smartphones in concert with its various services such as Global Positioning System (GPS), wireless networks, and compass have authorized Augmented Reality to find a very fruitful proposition in the wide spectrum of navigation based apps. The objective of the proposed work is to structure and design Geo based Augmented Reality application using GART toolkit. The paper initiates with explaining the various components used in a Geo AR app, exploring and explaining the various structure and features of the app and providing a spotlight on the deficiencies and future scope of the targeted developed app [1]. Abstract: Web services describe a standardized way of integrating Web-based applications over an Internet protocol backbone. Mobile devices are getting more pervasive and it is becoming increasingly necessary to integrate web services into applications that run on these devices. We introduce a novel approach for dynamically invoking web service methods from mobile devices with minimal user intervention that only involves entering a search phrase and values for the method parameters. The architecture overcomes technical challenges that involve consuming discovered services dynamically by introducing a man-in-the middle (MIM) server that provides a web service whose responsibility is to discover needed services and build the client-side proxies at runtime. The architecture moves to the MIM server energy-consuming tasks. Such tasks involve communication with servers over the Internet, XML-parsing of files, and on-the-fly compilation of source code. The MIM Server programmed with the intelligence to identify a set of services whose collective functionality can serve the user’s request. We perform extensive evaluations of the system performance to measure scalability as it relates to the capacity of the MIM server in handling mobile client requests, and device battery power savings resulting from delegating the service discovery tasks to the server. Keywords: Geocode Services, Location Based Services (LBS), Man-in- the-Middle (MIM), Web services, XForms.

In this presentation we will talk about the Microservices approach and how it can be implemented in IoT ecosystem. The microservice architectural style is an approach to developing a single application as a suite of small services, each running in its own process and communicating with lightweight mechanisms, often an HTTP resource API. A possible solution to easily control the IoT systems is to create an intelligent platform using a microservices architecture.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system. About authorWith two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the world’s largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Corporate and higher education. Two industries that, in the past, have had a clear divide with very little crossover. The difference in goals, learning styles and objectives paved the way for differing learning technologies platforms to evolve. Now, those stark lines are blurring as both sides are discovering they have content that’s relevant to the other. Join Tammy Rutherford as she walks through the pros and cons of corporate and higher ed collaborating. And the challenges of these different technology platforms working together for a brighter future.
