During their project, the students used various technologies including cameras, tripods, Mac computers, and software like iMovie. They filmed with a Sony Handycam camera and edited on Black Macs using iMovie. Social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter were utilized to share updates. Free sound effects were found online to avoid copyright issues.

1. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. During our project we used various different
technologies , the main and most important
piece of equipment was the camera we used.
The camera was a Sony Handycam and belonged
to the media studies department. When it came
to the day of filming we experienced technical
problems with the camera and ended up using
Morgan's own personal camera which luckily
was also a Sony Handycam. Morgan’s camera is
HD so it gave us a good picture quality.
Another important piece of equipment was the
tripod, this enabled us to film steady extreme
long shot, steady close up and a panning shot.
The tripod we used was borrowed from school
as we didn’t have our own.
3. As soon as we had finished filming we began the
editing stages straight away. This involved using
another important piece of technology, the Mac
computers. We only had the choice of using the
Black Mac computer due to the camera we used
however this worked out better as we had
experience on these computers therefore knew how
to use them effectively. However we did experience
some problems with the black Macs, this was due to
the fact that there is only two of them compared to
the six white Macs, they are also newer and
therefore more students wanted to use them. The
software we used to edit was ‘Imovie’ , this is a fast
and effective programme which holds many effects
such as transitions. The editing stages involved
things such as dubbing out all of the sound because
of the wind and then putting our own sound effects
back in. we also had the chance to cut clips, speed
clips up and slow them down.
4. When designing our production splash we had
the option of using a programme called ‘GIMP’
this software allows you to design and edit
pictures and logos. However after exploring our
options we decided to design and draw our
own production splash , this worked out well
due to the fact both me (Charlotte) and Alice
both do AS Art and design. After the
production splash was designed we took a
photograph with it using Alice Iphone, we then
emailed this to Morgan's hotmail and uploaded
it on to the Mac.
5. During the whole process of our project we used my
camera. We used it for things such as finding our
location, and blogging our recent activities such as items
we had purchased, and the progress of our costumes.
Another form of technology used was Instagram, this
page was used as an update feed of all of our photos.
The photos included things such as us using the Macs.
One of the forms of technology we
used was Twitter, we used this to say
what we were doing and when, this
was used mainly for our filming days.
6. Due to the fact we were not allowed to use copy right sounds or
music we had to find a reliable website which offers copy right free
sound effects. We searched them on Google and came across a
website called http://www.freesound.org/ . This offered us sounds
that were easily downloadable and quick to find. We used sounds
such as ‘natural outdoors’ , this was used throughout the final piece.
Another sound we used was ‘Drone’ this was used whenever the
Zombie character was seen or insinuated.
