How to Secure a Wireless Network from Hackers?

The reason we secure a wireless network is to stop people from using the services of our network who don't have permission to
utilize them. It is harder to secure a wireless network from hackers as compared to a classic wired network. This is due to the fact
that a wireless network can be accessed anywhere inside the range of its antenna.

In order to secure a wireless network from hackers, we should take proper steps to save ourselves against security issues. If you
don't secure a wireless network from hackers, you might end up without its service. The consequence might also include the
utilization of our network to attack further networks. To secure a wireless network from hackers, you should follow these simple
wireless networking tips:

Strategic antenna placement: The first thing you have to do is to position the access point's antenna in a place which restricts
the range of its signal to go further than the required area. You should not put the antenna close to a window because glass can't
obstruct its signals. Place it in a central location of the building.

Use WEP: WEP stands for Wireless encryption protocol. It’s a customary technique for encrypting traffic on a wireless network.
You should never skip it as that will allow hackers to get instant access to the traffic over a wireless network.

Change the SSID disable the broadcast of SSID: SSID stands for service set identifier, It is the recognition thread utilized by the
wireless access point due to which the customers are capable of starting connections. For every wireless access point arranged,
select an exclusive as well as unique SSID. Also if it’s attainable, hold back the broadcast of the SSID out over the antenna. It
won’t appear in the listing of offered networks, while being able to provide services as usual.

Disable DHCP: By doing this, the hackers will have to decode the TCP/IP parameters, subnet mask as well as the IP address in
order to hack your wireless network.

Disable or modify SNMP settings: Change the private as well as public community settings of SNMP. You can also just disable
it. Otherwise the hackers will be able to utilize SNMP to get significant info regarding your wireless network.

Utilize access lists: For additional security of your wireless network, and if your access point supports this feature, employ an
access list. An access list lets us determine precisely which machinery is permitted to attach to an access point. The access points
which include the access list can employ trivial file transfer protocol (TFPT) now and then in order to download modernized lists to
steer clear of hackers.

Instead of giving us a recipe this month our Chef was so excited about a cookbook that he found and was really excited about the
author and the stories that went along with the recipes that we felt it necessary to spread the word. With so many cookbooks and
Chefs on the market these days, it is really refreshing to see a person who has not been professionally trained tap into a market
that has not been over done by so many Chefs. This book was originally written for single fathers but it also has become a
surprising success among working women on the go.

About the Author:

Denny Stanz grew up in a small blue collar town in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Pre-
Law, and then spent 3 years in the United States Army, including a one year tour in Vietnam as a young Lieutenant.

He moved to California and began a 30 year career in the insurance industry where he served as President of the 2nd largest
insurance professional association in the country, and increased the membership to its highest total ever. He served for 10 years on
the Board of Directors of a Child’s Advocates organization that provided volunteers to the Juvenile Court to speak on behalf of
abused and neglected children, and assist the Judge by providing information that helped in that child being placed in the safest
home environment.

In the past decade, he has devoted his time to various interests. He has been active in the real estate market, purchasing and
renovating properties. His golf game sports a 12 handicap, and he has been a member of a male chorus well known in Southern
California. He always enjoyed reading and writing, and at age 66, became a first time author with the publication of Food Stories, a
compilation of true and sometimes humorous events that occurred in his life that resulted in his preparation of a meal for someone
other than himself. The book is written to help men, especially those whose only trip to the kitchen is to get a beer from the
refrigerator. He shares stories that millions of men can relate to, while showing them how to turn any situation into a simple and
gratifying cooking experience.

He is currently working on a second book, detailing his joy and heartache of being a single father. He lives in Southern California.

  • 5. From Our It Department How to Secure a Wireless Network from Hackers? The reason we secure a wireless network is to stop people from using the services of our network who don't have permission to utilize them. It is harder to secure a wireless network from hackers as compared to a classic wired network. This is due to the fact that a wireless network can be accessed anywhere inside the range of its antenna. In order to secure a wireless network from hackers, we should take proper steps to save ourselves against security issues. If you don't secure a wireless network from hackers, you might end up without its service. The consequence might also include the utilization of our network to attack further networks. To secure a wireless network from hackers, you should follow these simple wireless networking tips: Strategic antenna placement: The first thing you have to do is to position the access point's antenna in a place which restricts the range of its signal to go further than the required area. You should not put the antenna close to a window because glass can't obstruct its signals. Place it in a central location of the building. Use WEP: WEP stands for Wireless encryption protocol. It’s a customary technique for encrypting traffic on a wireless network. You should never skip it as that will allow hackers to get instant access to the traffic over a wireless network. Change the SSID disable the broadcast of SSID: SSID stands for service set identifier, It is the recognition thread utilized by the wireless access point due to which the customers are capable of starting connections. For every wireless access point arranged, select an exclusive as well as unique SSID. Also if it’s attainable, hold back the broadcast of the SSID out over the antenna. It won’t appear in the listing of offered networks, while being able to provide services as usual. Disable DHCP: By doing this, the hackers will have to decode the TCP/IP parameters, subnet mask as well as the IP address in order to hack your wireless network. Disable or modify SNMP settings: Change the private as well as public community settings of SNMP. You can also just disable it. Otherwise the hackers will be able to utilize SNMP to get significant info regarding your wireless network. Utilize access lists: For additional security of your wireless network, and if your access point supports this feature, employ an access list. An access list lets us determine precisely which machinery is permitted to attach to an access point. The access points which include the access list can employ trivial file transfer protocol (TFPT) now and then in order to download modernized lists to steer clear of hackers. Newsletter 5
  • 6. From Our Executive Chef Instead of giving us a recipe this month our Chef was so excited about a cookbook that he found and was really excited about the author and the stories that went along with the recipes that we felt it necessary to spread the word. With so many cookbooks and Chefs on the market these days, it is really refreshing to see a person who has not been professionally trained tap into a market that has not been over done by so many Chefs. This book was originally written for single fathers but it also has become a surprising success among working women on the go. About the Author: Denny Stanz grew up in a small blue collar town in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Pre- Law, and then spent 3 years in the United States Army, including a one year tour in Vietnam as a young Lieutenant. He moved to California and began a 30 year career in the insurance industry where he served as President of the 2nd largest insurance professional association in the country, and increased the membership to its highest total ever. He served for 10 years on the Board of Directors of a Child’s Advocates organization that provided volunteers to the Juvenile Court to speak on behalf of abused and neglected children, and assist the Judge by providing information that helped in that child being placed in the safest home environment. In the past decade, he has devoted his time to various interests. He has been active in the real estate market, purchasing and renovating properties. His golf game sports a 12 handicap, and he has been a member of a male chorus well known in Southern California. He always enjoyed reading and writing, and at age 66, became a first time author with the publication of Food Stories, a compilation of true and sometimes humorous events that occurred in his life that resulted in his preparation of a meal for someone other than himself. The book is written to help men, especially those whose only trip to the kitchen is to get a beer from the refrigerator. He shares stories that millions of men can relate to, while showing them how to turn any situation into a simple and gratifying cooking experience. He is currently working on a second book, detailing his joy and heartache of being a single father. He lives in Southern California. Check out how you can purchase Food Stories at http://dennystanz.com Newsletter 6
