1. Mrs. Chambless RESA Science & Math Consultant Mrs. Biscorner Port Huron Science Teacher Introductions Student Introductions: Think of an adjective that describes you. The first letter in the adjective must match the first letter in your name or school name. Example: Hi, I am cheerful Chambless
2. Concept Map of the Day Why We Need Wind Energy Renewable Vs Non- renewable Wind Energy Careers in Wind Energy Experimenting With Design of Wind Turbine Science Conferencing Science Knowledge Variables Competition
3. Renewable vs. Non-renewable Energy Directions Get into partners: Decide who is student A and who is student B. Partners:Divide green card set up into 2 piles, renewable and non-renewable energies. Partner A: Renewable, Partner B: Non-renewable - Take cards and meet others, under the sign that matches your pile of cards. Compare answers, and discuss/debate if cards don’t match. If cards don’t match under sign, partners have to get back together and fix mistakes. When cards match by checking with other groups and finalized with team leader, partners return to table and discuss table titled: Michigan and U.S. Consumption of Energy Resources, 2001 (orange) Partners need to be ready to report on cards and table with one statement on what they noticed about renewable and non-renewable energies.

6. The paper and pencil gets passed around to each group member.
7. Each member has to write one answer – group can help with ideas.
9. When groups completes task, they celebrate with a group cheer.Task Each group member writes down one variable that the class needs to be aware of when setting up the wind turbine experiment. Groups have two minutes- group with most variables wins a prize!
10. Safety Wear safety goggles Stand in back of or in front of wind turbine during testing Treat electricity with care and caution
17. Must test blades at least once before presentation timeCompetition: Each blade set will be tested at high speed for 30 seconds. Power output will be calculated in volts. The team with the highest average output will be the winner.
18. Create the Perfect Blade WORK TIME Be Polite Be Respectful Use Small Voices
27. Reflection Take your claims and evidence and make sentences to support what you have learned about blade design. Write a paragraph that includes the following: 1. Intro sentence 2. Claim and evidence sentences 3. What would you try next time sentence 4. Conclusion sentence
