A New Pedagogical Approach
for Global Social Upliftment:
Learn by doing or hands-on learning
Team Infinity!
Perfect Education for Dream Jobs (the reality, differences and trends)
A new pedagogy: “learn by doing” – experiential learning: (we can only effectively solve our
world’s problems bycreatively and innovatively applying our ideas and know-how.) One of the
greatest flaws of the current educational system is that it teaches young people what to think and
not how to think; what to do and not how to do things. Hence, making them subservient; college
graduates with fancy degree, yet, unemployable and jobless. Many of whom have spent years
walking round the corridors of companies, corporations and parastatals, submitting CVs and
looking for handouts, instead of true freedom and independence which is business ownership.
As a result, teeming number of young graduates had finished school without any job to show for
the years they had spent in college. Many frustrated job-seekers are saying that they might as well
have not gone to school at all. The reason is because the current global system of the world of
work has also placed so much importance on certificates/credentials, rather than on skills and
competencies. In the current job market they ask: “what college degree(s) do you have?”,
however, times are gradually changing and in the next decade the question will be: “what can you
do?” I think a premium should be placed on informal education, vocational training and
experiential learning. The ideal education is one that empowers students to create jobs after their
graduation rather look for jobs. The mantra of education should be: “problem-solving and job-
creation” – solving problems in all segments of society and creating employment opportunities.
As a creative problem solver – I actually acquired most of the skills and competences I have today
outside of the lecture halls, through self-learning and doing. I’ve learnt a lot from peers and
mentors. Problems have a proclivity for triggering questions and deep thoughts – which often
stimulates creativity, enterprise, and innovation. I strongly believe the best way to learn is to do.
Our world’s problems are swelling up by the day – and our generation need hands-skills to solve
these man-made problems. We have to be daring, courageous, ambitious, creative, innovative and
hands-on to zap the myriad challenges of our time, and secure a better world for ourselves and
for posterity. The future companies will definitely be more hands-on and cutting-edge than what
we are seeing today.
Team Infinity!
Perfect Education for Dream Jobs (schools with potential and why)
Vocational/Technical and Business Schools – Why? They are more hands-on as well as cutting-
edge. They dwell more on practical and experiential learning than on theories. Interestingly,
many of the gainfully employed and financially independent people across Africa, had attended
vocational, artisanal and technical training institutions, and been trained in carpentry, plumbing,
HVAC, wielders, building, architecture, masons, mechanics, fishers, farmers, information
systems, website/soft ware development, etc. And enjoy financial freedom more than most of the
people who spent time in fancy colleges and classrooms; majoring on fancy programs – only to
suffer the brunt of unemployment after graduation. Education is meant to empower people so
that they can add positive value to the world around them, and produce tangible results through
creative use of time and skills, hence contributing optimally towards the overall upliftment of
society.
The current educational system which seldom encourages hands-on learning will not create very
many problem solvers and job creators. Our world is hungry for hands-on problem-solvers and
not fancy-job seekers. The world is in dire need of kick-ass solutions to the numerous social
challenges of our time. Education should inspire people to change themselves and the world by
turning our planet’s challenges and crises into opportunities. Below is a question that might

Proposals for Perfect Education for the Future
All over the world today, youth are struggling to find work; one of the well-known reasons for this
is that their education and training do not match with skills required by employers. A study by
PepsiCo USA confirms that graduates with a year of work experience under their belt were far
more likely to be employed than those with no industry experience. Shelby Thompson, PepsiCo's
head of recruitment, said: "With one in five graduates struggling to find work after university,
this research highlights the need for students to be thinking about gaining valuable industry
experience outside their university courses.
