WHAT IS A NOUN?
A noun is a word used to name a
person, animal, place, thing, and
abstract idea.

Nouns can function in a sentence as
a subject, an object or object of a
preposition.
   • Girl             • Bird
   • Book             • Education

   • Mary             • Love

   • Paris
WHAT IS THE SUBJECT?
 In
   a sentence, the subject is the person,
 animal or thing that does the verb:

 •   Alyssa is eating a banana. (Who is eating?)

 •   The cat is drinking milk. (Who is drinking?)

 •   The phone is ringing. (What is ringing?)


NOTE: The subject comes before the verb
WHAT IS THE OBJECT?
 In
   a sentence, the object receives the action
 performed by the subject:

 •   Alyssa is eating a banana. (What is Alyssa eating?)

 •   The cat is drinking milk. (What is the cat drinking?)

 •   I bought a present for my wife. (What did I buy?)


NOTE: The object comes after the verb
WHAT IS OBJECT OF A PREPOSITION?
 Ina sentence, the object of a preposition is the noun
 following a preposition

 •   Alyssa is eating a banana with chocolate.

 •   The cat is drinking milk in a plate.

 •   I bought a present for my wife.


NOTE: The object of prep. comes after a preposition
WHAT IS AN ADJECTIVE?
 Adjectives are words used to
 describe nouns. They give you more
 information about the nouns:

 • The ball is red
 • The tall man is waiting for the bus

 • The small boy is eating a delicious
 apple
 • The watch is expensive, but
 elegant, durable and beautiful.
WHAT IS A PRONOUN?
A pronoun is a word used to substitute
a noun to make a phrase less repetitive
Compare:
•Joe is my brother. Joe is 16 years old and
goes to school. Joe likes to play soccer and
basketball. Joe has many friends. His
friends like Joe because Joe is nice and fun.

•Joe is my brother. He is 16 years old and
goes to school. Joe likes to play soccer and
basketball. He has many friends. They like
him because he is nice and fun.
SUBJECT PRONOUNS
 Subjectpronouns substitute a noun that
 functions as a subject:

 •   My mom loves Joe. She loves Joe

 •   Joe likes to play soccer. He likes to play soccer

 •   Joe and I go to school. We go to school.

NOTE: The subject pronoun comes before the
 verb
OBJECT PRONOUNS
 Objectpronouns substitute a noun that functions
 as an object:

 •   My mom loves Joe. My mom loves him

 •   Joe likes his friends. Joe likes them

 •   Joe is talking to Ann. Joe is talking to her.

NOTE: The object pronoun comes after
      the verb

Joe likes to play soccer and basketball. Joe has many friends. His friends like Joe because Joe is nice and fun. •Joe is my brother. He is 16 years old and goes to school. Joe likes to play soccer and basketball. He has many friends. They like him because he is nice and fun.
