17. Cedar Creek Golf Team has won the State
Championship for 4 consecutive years. They have
won 6 of the last 7 years, and 8 since 2000.
All 5 golfers qualified for the Division V All-State Golf
Team: Brandon Newton finished 1st overall for the
4th consecutive year Jordan Cole finished 2nd
overall Scott Barron tied for 3rd after regulation play,
but finished in 4th place after a “Sudden-Victory” tie
breaker that went to a second hole. Matt Moss and
Johnny Maxwell tied for 8th place overall
18. The NCTE Achievement Awards in
Writing is a school-based writing
program established in 1957 to
encourage high school students in their
writing and to encourage some of the
best student writers in the nation. This
year, Will Rudnicki has been selected
for superior performance in writing for
his pieces entitle "13.1 memories" and
"The World That Built Me." Will is one
of only five students in Louisiana to be
chosen for this honor.

22. Geometry Students Raise Funds for JDRF
The three geometry classes have designed and created two very unique quilts to raise
funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The students began with some
research to investigate the geometrical aspects of quilt block patterns. Since Cedar
Creek has six students who suffer from Juvenile Diabetes, the classes decided to sell
raffle tickets to raise money for the support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation. The thirty-six students raised a total of $1355.00 to donate to JDRF.

Ceremony for new members. In order to be inducted, a student must maintain a

visited KARD-TV Fox 14 . Meteorologist, Natalie Walters, gave a tour of the weather lab
to enhance what the students have been learning in the classroom. They were able to

41. The Cedar Creeks Robotics Team placed second
in the 3rd Annual Institute of Navigation Mini
Urban Challenge Robotics Competition . The
goal of the competition was to program a Lego
NXT robot so that it could autonomously
navigate its way through a small city,
accomplishing specific tasks along the way.
Each team was required to give a technical oral
presentation to a panel of judges. Robotics
competition provides an opportunity for students
to integrate science, technology, engineering, and
math to solve problems in real world settings.
Cedar Creek qualified to go to the national
competition in Washington, DC on May 26. The Cedar Creek Robotics Team

42. Dr. Mark Cross and Ryan Dwyer attended the 80th annual meeting of the
Louisiana Academy of Sciences, a collegiate event, in Alexandria. Ryan
competed in the physical sciences division against 11 college students from
across the state. He presented a poster session titled "Efficiency of CFL
Lights," which explained and documented the results of experiments that
were conducted under the direction of Dr. Cross. His presentation was well
received by the judges and Ryan gained valuable insight into future
academic and career choices.
43. The Lady Cougars and Ouachita Christian
School softball team played a game designated
to help raise awareness for breast cancer by
wearing pink uniforms. A total of $7,600 was
donated to the Kitty Degree Health Center of
Monroe.

DARE, Drug Abuse Resistance
Education. Lt. Sam Chrisman and Lt.
Kirk Taylor from the Lincoln Parish
Sheriff’s Department were the DARE
officers teaching the students. The
students learned ways to avoid or resist
situations in which they might be offered
drugs or alcohol. All the 8th graders
received a DARE t-shirt. Cedar Creek
and Mrs. Phillips (sponsor)want to thank
Lt. Chrisman, Lt. Taylor, and the Lincoln
Parish Sheriff’s Department for their hard
work and support for the DARE program
as it helps our students learn ways to

86. The sixth grade students have completed DARE, Drug Abuse Resistance Education,
with Mrs. Darby Hollingsworth as the teacher/sponsor. Lt. Sam Chrisman from the
Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department was the DARE officer teaching the students. The
students were required to write an essay and to present it to the entire sixth grade.
Essay winners were chosen by their peers and will represent Cedar Creek at the
regional DARE convention. This year’s DARE Essay Winners are Ben Slusher, Carlie
Toliver, Kevin Tamakloe, and Brandon Vessel.
87. The First grade class went to Mrs. Pike's Biology class and
demonstrated the functions and placement of the heart, lungs and
rib cage by modeling with their chest vest. In return, the Biology
students shared their knowledge of these organs in detail. It was
interesting for the students to see how curriculum stretches from
first to tenth grade.

Cedar Creek School Student Council
President, has been named a
Samsung American Legion Scholar.
With this honor, McCallum receives a
scholarship that may be used for
undergraduate study in the United States.
He represented Cedar Creek School and
Louisiana at both Boys State
and Boys Nation this summer.
114. Carlie Toliver,
a 6th grade student,
won overall at
La Tech Solo Festival Piano.
She competed in the
6th and 7th grade division.
