Congratulations!
Carlie Toliver won the DAR Essay Contest for Lincoln Parish
       and for the Northwest District, which includes
  ten parishes. She has also been invited to attend and be
recognized at the 21st Annual DARE Training Conference in
              Ruston scheduled for July 11-12.
Cedar Creek School honored the outstanding
academic accomplishments of students in grades 6
  through 12 and gave special recognition to all
  students enrolled in Advanced Placement and
           Advanced Honors Classes
          at the Super Omnia Banquet.



                                          Lamar Dowling, Cedar Creek Class of 2005,
                                                delivered an inspirational speech that
                                          expressed the merits of the ongoing pursuit of
                                              excellence.. Lamar also, expressed the
                                          importance of seeing failures as opportunities
                                           to learn and strengthen character. Finally, he
                                          challenged each student to be steadfast in the
                                           ongoing pursuit of the Cedar Creek motto of
                                                    Super Omnia…the best of all.

     Cedar Creek has won the State Championship for 4 consecutive years, and so has Brandon.
                           He qualified for the Division V All-State Golf Team:
                         Brandon finished 1st overall for the 4th consecutive year
He has been invited to play in the LHSAA Tournament of Champions at Tamahka Trails in Marksville, LA.
                                 Brandon won the Tournament last year.

    the International Fund for Animal
Welfare’s Animal Action art contest. It is
  one of twelve, selected from more than
1,000 entries, that will be displayed on the
         2012-2013 Animal Action
     poster. Congratulations Emily!
Zach Smith of the 3rd grade entered
the contest “Name Our Robot”.
He was selected the winner out of
1300 entries. His award was a new
iPad and his teacher Mrs. Letlow                 H.O.S.S.
received a $250 gift certificate for   “Helping Our Skilled Surgeons”
classroom supplies.

11 students received the

                                                                     Council for their performance on the
                                                                         PLAN (the Pre-ACT) Assessment.
                                                                     These students are on target to meet
                                                                     or exceed ACT's College Readiness
                                                                           Benchmarks by graduation.

Cedar Creek Golf Team has won the State
Championship for 4 consecutive years. They have
   won 6 of the last 7 years, and 8 since 2000.

All 5 golfers qualified for the Division V All-State Golf
 Team: Brandon Newton finished 1st overall for the
    4th consecutive year Jordan Cole finished 2nd
overall Scott Barron tied for 3rd after regulation play,
 but finished in 4th place after a “Sudden-Victory” tie
 breaker that went to a second hole. Matt Moss and
       Johnny Maxwell tied for 8th place overall
The NCTE Achievement Awards in
Writing is a school-based writing
program established in 1957 to
encourage high school students in their
writing and to encourage some of the
best student writers in the nation. This
year, Will Rudnicki has been selected
for superior performance in writing for
his pieces entitle "13.1 memories" and
"The World That Built Me." Will is one
of only five students in Louisiana to be
chosen for this honor.

Geometry Students Raise Funds for JDRF
The three geometry classes have designed and created two very unique quilts to raise
funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The students began with some
 research to investigate the geometrical aspects of quilt block patterns. Since Cedar
 Creek has six students who suffer from Juvenile Diabetes, the classes decided to sell
    raffle tickets to raise money for the support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research
  Foundation. The thirty-six students raised a total of $1355.00 to donate to JDRF.
Cedar Creek Key Club members attended
 the LaMissTenn District Convention in
    Baton Rouge. Key Club members
       attended officer training, club
  development, and service leadership
     seminars during the convention.
        Will Rudnicki was elected
   Lieutenant Governor for Division 6.
    The Cedar Creek Key Club has 100
  members and is active in many school
         and civic service activities.
Cougar golfers capture the Regional Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
Matt Moss finished in 1st place, Scott Barron in 2nd, Brandon Newton rounded out
the top 3 and Jordan Cole tied for 5th place.

Cedar Creek’s 2011-2012 National Junior Honor Society held its annual Induction
Ceremony for new members. In order to be inducted, a student must maintain a
  93% overall GPA. Mrs. Kay Phillips is the teacher-sponsor for the CC NJHS.

Lady Cougar basketball guard, Ruby Richie signs a letter of intent to
    play basketball for Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas.
The First Grade Class has been learning lots of different things about the weather. They
visited KARD-TV Fox 14 . Meteorologist, Natalie Walters, gave a tour of the weather lab
to enhance what the students have been learning in the classroom. They were able to
read radar screens, and see where all the action takes place.

Students in French and
Spanish classes spent their
spring break traveling
across the ocean to Europe.
They visited Paris and
Barcelona. They saw places
in which they had only
studied in the classroom.
Middle School was represented by

       at the state MATHCOUNTS competition in Pineville.
        Mrs. Memrie Lolley is the team's sponsor and coach.
Haley Roebuck and Ava Hartwell recently spent a day as a
Teacher. Miss Roebuck worked along side with Mrs. Letlow
and Miss Hartwell worked with Mrs. Storms
This is our 5th year to host St. Jude Trike-a-Thon.
The Trike-a-thon program is a fun program that exposes
        children to proper bicycle safety habits.
        It also serves as a fundraiser for St. Jude.
Thanks to our pre-kindergarten children and parents for
               collecting $2,244.08 this year!

National Catholic Youth Conference in
        Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society have elected officers for the
  2012-2013 school year. They are : Sarfraz Ahmed, Vice President, Caroline Hill, Activities
         Chairperson, Jaina Robinson, Secretary, Mackenzie Harris, Treasurer, and
         Ethan Hunt, President. Mrs. Kay Phillips is the CC NJHS teacher/sponsor.

The Cedar Creeks Robotics Team placed second
in the 3rd Annual Institute of Navigation Mini
Urban Challenge Robotics Competition . The
goal of the competition was to program a Lego
NXT robot so that it could autonomously
navigate its way through a small city,
accomplishing specific tasks along the way.
Each team was required to give a technical oral
presentation to a panel of judges. Robotics
competition provides an opportunity for students
to integrate science, technology, engineering, and
math to solve problems in real world settings.
Cedar Creek qualified to go to the national
competition in Washington, DC on May 26.                 The Cedar Creek Robotics Team

Dr. Mark Cross and Ryan Dwyer attended the 80th annual meeting of the
Louisiana Academy of Sciences, a collegiate event, in Alexandria. Ryan
competed in the physical sciences division against 11 college students from
across the state. He presented a poster session titled "Efficiency of CFL
Lights," which explained and documented the results of experiments that
were conducted under the direction of Dr. Cross. His presentation was well
received by the judges and Ryan gained valuable insight into future
academic and career choices.
The Lady Cougars and Ouachita Christian
School softball team played a game designated
to help raise awareness for breast cancer by
wearing pink uniforms. A total of $7,600 was
donated to the Kitty Degree Health Center of
Monroe.

 grader, won 2nd place in the
 Northwest LA Spelling Bee at
      LSUS on Saturday!
Mary competed against 54 other
          students.
3rd graders, Catherine and Elisabeth Hunt,
completed the NELSA soccer regular season with an undefeated record and
    were selected to play in the CenturyLink Springfest Tournament.
            The girls are coached by their father, Chris Hunt,
                  and brothers, Ethan and Aaron Hunt.

Cedar Creek School seeks to provide a superior

Second grade classes have enjoyed
learning about plants. They grew their
  very own Chia Pet Head. Students
     observed and recorded data of
 the plant's growth, made predictions
   about the plants growth based on
  availability of water, nutrients, and
 sunlight. They even had the exciting
   task of styling their "Grass Hair.“

Scholarship Contest! John has now
been invited to compete on the state
level in this Constitutional speech
contest in March. The purpose of the
program is for students to not only
gain more knowledge about the
Constitution of the United States, but
to also learn how to express themselves
fluently and forcefully on the subject in
order to emphasize the duties and
responsibilities of an American citizen.    American Legion Representatives

Uma Tadikonda, a junior, has been
     selected to participate in
    "A Day with the Doctors“
 sponsored by the North Louisiana
 AHEC and LSU Health Shreveport
       School of Medicine.

   This program is an educational
 opportunity for students to explore
 health careers. Uma Tadikonda was
   selected based on her interest in
pursuing a health career, her academic
  accomplishments, and successful
 participation in other AHEC health
    career enticement and training
  programs. Only 60 students from
northeast and northwest Louisiana (21
parishes) were selected for this unique
             opportunity.
The National Geography Bee had 29 students in grades 6 – 8 participated .

            Collin will now take a written exam in hopes to

Elementary had 38 students who sold over
$200 . Top 3 winners were Tayler Ellis,

Cedar Creek School put out PINK pumpkins to collect coins for the
Susan G. Komen Foundation. The total collected was $4003.53. The
sixth grade class collected $1428.24.
The 8th grade students have completed
DARE, Drug Abuse Resistance
Education. Lt. Sam Chrisman and Lt.
Kirk Taylor from the Lincoln Parish
Sheriff’s Department were the DARE
officers teaching the students. The
students learned ways to avoid or resist
situations in which they might be offered
drugs or alcohol. All the 8th graders
received a DARE t-shirt. Cedar Creek
and Mrs. Phillips (sponsor)want to thank
Lt. Chrisman, Lt. Taylor, and the Lincoln
Parish Sheriff’s Department for their hard
work and support for the DARE program
as it helps our students learn ways to
avoid alcohol and drugs.

Free and 6th in the 100 Breast. The 4-man relay team placed 3rd in the 200 Free Relay
and 2nd in the 400 Free Relay.

for Cedar Creek given by The Grand Lodge of Louisiana, Free and Accepted
Masons, Ruston Lodge #106
Students who were the top sellers of the
 Sally Foster fundraiser were treated to a
movie and limo party at Celebrity Theatres
The forty students were picked up at school
 in limousines and taken to the movies to
     watch “Alvin and the Chipmunks:
              Chipwrecked”.

                             In November, 2011 the Cedar Creek chapter of the National Junior
                             Honor Society joined with the Middle School Student Council to
                             host their annual “Pack the Pantry” food drive for the Ronald
                             McDonald House in Monroe, LA. The entire school participated in
                             donating food, paper goods, office or play supplies, and money.

   for being named AP Scholars.
    These students have received
  scores of 3 or higher on three or
more Advanced Placement Exams.
   Sarah Ahmed, has earned the
added recognition of being named
     an AP Scholar with Honor.
She received at least 3.25 on all AP
 Exams and scores 3 or higher on
        four or more exams.
The sixth grade students have completed DARE, Drug Abuse Resistance Education,
with Mrs. Darby Hollingsworth as the teacher/sponsor. Lt. Sam Chrisman from the
Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department was the DARE officer teaching the students. The
students were required to write an essay and to present it to the entire sixth grade.
Essay winners were chosen by their peers and will represent Cedar Creek at the
regional DARE convention. This year’s DARE Essay Winners are Ben Slusher, Carlie
Toliver, Kevin Tamakloe, and Brandon Vessel.
The First grade class went to Mrs. Pike's Biology class and
demonstrated the functions and placement of the heart, lungs and
 rib cage by modeling with their chest vest. In return, the Biology
 students shared their knowledge of these organs in detail. It was
interesting for the students to see how curriculum stretches from
                        first to tenth grade.

  • 6. Congratulations! Carlie Toliver won the DAR Essay Contest for Lincoln Parish and for the Northwest District, which includes ten parishes. She has also been invited to attend and be recognized at the 21st Annual DARE Training Conference in Ruston scheduled for July 11-12.

Cedar Creek School honored the outstanding academic accomplishments of students in grades 6 through 12 and gave special recognition to all students enrolled in Advanced Placement and Advanced Honors Classes at the Super Omnia Banquet. Lamar Dowling, Cedar Creek Class of 2005, delivered an inspirational speech that expressed the merits of the ongoing pursuit of excellence.. Lamar also, expressed the importance of seeing failures as opportunities to learn and strengthen character. Finally, he challenged each student to be steadfast in the ongoing pursuit of the Cedar Creek motto of Super Omnia…the best of all.

  • 11. Brandon Newton commits to play golf for LouisianaTech University Cedar Creek has won the State Championship for 4 consecutive years, and so has Brandon. He qualified for the Division V All-State Golf Team: Brandon finished 1st overall for the 4th consecutive year He has been invited to play in the LHSAA Tournament of Champions at Tamahka Trails in Marksville, LA. Brandon won the Tournament last year.
  • 12. 8th grader Maggie Manning placed 2nd in the State Tennis Tournament.
  • 13. This painting by senior Emily Prestridge has been selected as one of the winners in the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s Animal Action art contest. It is one of twelve, selected from more than 1,000 entries, that will be displayed on the 2012-2013 Animal Action poster. Congratulations Emily!
  • 14. Zach Smith of the 3rd grade entered the contest “Name Our Robot”. He was selected the winner out of 1300 entries. His award was a new iPad and his teacher Mrs. Letlow H.O.S.S. received a $250 gift certificate for “Helping Our Skilled Surgeons” classroom supplies.

  • 16. 11 students received the "Louisiana Student Achievement Award" from the Louisiana ACT Council for their performance on the PLAN (the Pre-ACT) Assessment. These students are on target to meet or exceed ACT's College Readiness Benchmarks by graduation. The students receiving this recognition are: Jacob Antee, Taylor Barron, Blake Ginn, Katie Grappe, Catherine Hild, Story Moller, Garland Pipes, William Pipes, Allie Veatch, Mark VanDenLangenberg, and Henry Wiygul.
  • 17. Cedar Creek Golf Team has won the State Championship for 4 consecutive years. They have won 6 of the last 7 years, and 8 since 2000. All 5 golfers qualified for the Division V All-State Golf Team: Brandon Newton finished 1st overall for the 4th consecutive year Jordan Cole finished 2nd overall Scott Barron tied for 3rd after regulation play, but finished in 4th place after a “Sudden-Victory” tie breaker that went to a second hole. Matt Moss and Johnny Maxwell tied for 8th place overall

The NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing is a school-based writing program established in 1957 to encourage high school students in their writing and to encourage some of the best student writers in the nation. This year, Will Rudnicki has been selected for superior performance in writing for his pieces entitle "13.1 memories" and "The World That Built Me." Will is one of only five students in Louisiana to be chosen for this honor.

  • 21. Emma Crawford, Chloe Kaczvinsky, Jeff Carroll, and Ryan Dwyer will represent Cedar Creek School at Louisiana Girls State and Boys State this summer at Northwestern State University. Sponsored by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary, Boys State and Girls State are educational programs that focus on providing leadership experiences, character development, and citizenship
  • 22. Geometry Students Raise Funds for JDRF The three geometry classes have designed and created two very unique quilts to raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The students began with some research to investigate the geometrical aspects of quilt block patterns. Since Cedar Creek has six students who suffer from Juvenile Diabetes, the classes decided to sell raffle tickets to raise money for the support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The thirty-six students raised a total of $1355.00 to donate to JDRF.
  • 23. Cedar Creek Key Club members attended the LaMissTenn District Convention in Baton Rouge. Key Club members attended officer training, club development, and service leadership seminars during the convention. Will Rudnicki was elected Lieutenant Governor for Division 6. The Cedar Creek Key Club has 100 members and is active in many school and civic service activities.
  • 24. Cougar golfers capture the Regional Tournament for the fourth consecutive year. Matt Moss finished in 1st place, Scott Barron in 2nd, Brandon Newton rounded out the top 3 and Jordan Cole tied for 5th place.

  • 26. Cedar Creek’s 2011-2012 National Junior Honor Society held its annual Induction Ceremony for new members. In order to be inducted, a student must maintain a 93% overall GPA. Mrs. Kay Phillips is the teacher-sponsor for the CC NJHS.
  • 27. Congratulations Chanley Patterson for being named a State Grade-Level Winner in the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest. Over 325,000 students participated in this year’s contest. She will now be eligible to compete for a National Grade-Level title.   • 32. The First Grade Class has been learning lots of different things about the weather. They visited KARD-TV Fox 14 . Meteorologist, Natalie Walters, gave a tour of the weather lab to enhance what the students have been learning in the classroom. They were able to read radar screens, and see where all the action takes place.

  • 37. This is our 5th year to host St. Jude Trike-a-Thon. The Trike-a-thon program is a fun program that exposes children to proper bicycle safety habits. It also serves as a fundraiser for St. Jude. Thanks to our pre-kindergarten children and parents for collecting $2,244.08 this year!

  • 41. The Cedar Creeks Robotics Team placed second in the 3rd Annual Institute of Navigation Mini Urban Challenge Robotics Competition . The goal of the competition was to program a Lego NXT robot so that it could autonomously navigate its way through a small city, accomplishing specific tasks along the way. Each team was required to give a technical oral presentation to a panel of judges. Robotics competition provides an opportunity for students to integrate science, technology, engineering, and math to solve problems in real world settings. Cedar Creek qualified to go to the national competition in Washington, DC on May 26. The Cedar Creek Robotics Team Allan Taunton, Story Moller, Hassan Shahid, Zachary Barron, John Brook, Erik Eklund, and Gary Sidhu.
  • 42. Dr. Mark Cross and Ryan Dwyer attended the 80th annual meeting of the Louisiana Academy of Sciences, a collegiate event, in Alexandria. Ryan competed in the physical sciences division against 11 college students from across the state. He presented a poster session titled "Efficiency of CFL Lights," which explained and documented the results of experiments that were conducted under the direction of Dr. Cross. His presentation was well received by the judges and Ryan gained valuable insight into future academic and career choices.
  • 43. The Lady Cougars and Ouachita Christian School softball team played a game designated to help raise awareness for breast cancer by wearing pink uniforms. A total of $7,600 was donated to the Kitty Degree Health Center of Monroe.

  • 52. The Golf Team placed 1st at the St. Louis Invitational held in Lake Charles. Members are Matthew Moss, Jordan Cole, Brandon Newton, Johnny Maxwell and Scott Barron. Jordan and Brandon tied for 4th Matthew – tied 9th, Johnny tied 11th and Scott tied 28th place. The team had a total of 602 for the two day tournament. They were 9 shots ahead of 5A schools Sulphur and Barbe.

Students observed and recorded data of the plant's growth, made predictions about the plants growth based on availability of water, nutrients, and sunlight. They even had the exciting task of styling their "Grass Hair.“

John has now been invited to compete on the state level in this Constitutional speech contest in March. The purpose of the program is for students to not only gain more knowledge about the Constitution of the United States, but to also learn how to express themselves fluently and forcefully on the subject in order to emphasize the duties and responsibilities of an American citizen.   • 58. Uma Tadikonda, a junior, has been selected to participate in "A Day with the Doctors“ sponsored by the North Louisiana AHEC and LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine. This program is an educational opportunity for students to explore health careers. Uma Tadikonda was selected based on her interest in pursuing a health career, her academic accomplishments, and successful participation in other AHEC health career enticement and training programs. Only 60 students from northeast and northwest Louisiana (21 parishes) were selected for this unique opportunity.

  • 67. Cedar Creek School put out PINK pumpkins to collect coins for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The total collected was $4003.53. The sixth grade class collected $1428.24.
  • 68. The 8th grade students have completed DARE, Drug Abuse Resistance Education. Lt. Sam Chrisman and Lt. Kirk Taylor from the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department were the DARE officers teaching the students. The students learned ways to avoid or resist situations in which they might be offered drugs or alcohol. All the 8th graders received a DARE t-shirt. Cedar Creek and Mrs. Phillips (sponsor)want to thank Lt. Chrisman, Lt. Taylor, and the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department for their hard work and support for the DARE program as it helps our students learn ways to avoid alcohol and drugs.

Madison Hoffman, president of the Cedar Creek National Junior Honor Society, and Lindsey Corie, president of the Cedar Creek Middle School Student Council, present a Pack-n- Play baby bed and a gift of money to Mrs. Georgia Street, House director of the Ronald McDonald House in Monroe, LA. In November, 2011 the Cedar Creek chapter of the National Junior Honor Society joined with the Middle School Student Council to host their annual “Pack the Pantry” food drive for the Ronald McDonald House in Monroe, LA. The entire school participated in donating food, paper goods, office or play supplies, and money.

These students have received scores of 3 or higher on three or more Advanced Placement Exams. Sarah Ahmed, has earned the added recognition of being named an AP Scholar with Honor. She received at least 3.25 on all AP Exams and scores 3 or higher on four or more exams.
  • 86. The sixth grade students have completed DARE, Drug Abuse Resistance Education, with Mrs. Darby Hollingsworth as the teacher/sponsor. Lt. Sam Chrisman from the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department was the DARE officer teaching the students. The students were required to write an essay and to present it to the entire sixth grade. Essay winners were chosen by their peers and will represent Cedar Creek at the regional DARE convention. This year’s DARE Essay Winners are Ben Slusher, Carlie Toliver, Kevin Tamakloe, and Brandon Vessel.
  • 87. The First grade class went to Mrs. Pike's Biology class and demonstrated the functions and placement of the heart, lungs and rib cage by modeling with their chest vest. In return, the Biology students shared their knowledge of these organs in detail. It was interesting for the students to see how curriculum stretches from first to tenth grade.

They have been meeting for ten years. MOMS in Touch meets every John 17:15 Tuesday morning at 8 A. M. in the lecture room.

With this honor, McCallum receives a scholarship that may be used for undergraduate study in the United States. He represented Cedar Creek School and Louisiana at both Boys State and Boys Nation this summer.
