What is Encinitas? Encinitas was incorporated on October 1, 1986. Encinitas is a coastal city situated along 6.1 miles of rugged coastline. It is 19.4 square miles, is bounded on the north and south by lagoons and on the west by the ocean. Population is approximately 59,000 residents. Temp seldom falls below 40 degrees or exceeds 85 degrees. Average annual high temp is 72 degrees. Housing units as of January 1, 2000 is 23,577 and projected by 2005 is 25,227.
