2. What is a Podcast?
The word podcast means…
A broadcast that can be played on an iPod
A combination of the words iPod and broadcast
Podcasts can be found all over the internet
espn television shows (Pardon the Interruption)
NPR (All Things Considered)
CNN (Anderson Cooper 360)
The New York Times
iTunes makes many more podcasts available
4. Teaching with Podcasts
Podcasts can be used to…
Record a lecture/lesson for students to access outside of class
Record a message about what is happening in class
Record student projects in different subject areas
6. Planning a Podcast
Create a project
Acquire and ready needed equipment
Computer, headsets, audacity, etc…
Little things…
Have students create a script for podcast
Research, planning and scripting need to be done before recording
Pre-writing and editing of script can be added as needed
Time to record!
7. Using Audacity
Audacity is used to record mp3 files, which become
podcasts
This is a free program that is downloadable or
available on a district network drive
The network drive must mapped on each computer

The Audacity folder must be copied onto the computer
HOW IT WORKS…
8. Publishing a Podcast
Publishing is not essential for classroom use
BUT…
publishing creates the opportunity to extend your classroom to the
world
To publish
Upload file to a server or website
Post file to blog, wikispace, or webpage
