2. Welcome
Good Evening,
My name is Bernard Bronner and I am in Ms. Darville’s 5th period Eagle AVID class. I
would like to welcome everyone to AVID Family Night at Benjamin E. Mays High
School. As a freshman AVID student, my experience in AVID has been a good one so
far. I have learned how to be more organized and to think more about my future.
Hopefully, you will find the information presented tonight valuable.
Purpose
My name is Amber Durrah and I am in Ms. Darville’s 3rd period AVID class. The
purpose of AVID Family Night is to provide a chance for all members of the AVID
community at Benjamin E. Mays High School to get together to socialize and discuss
information about the AVID program. Tonight you will hear information about the
mission of AVID, who the AVID elective teachers are, the AVID activities for the
2009-2010 school year, the colleges that the AVID seniors have been accepted to and
AVID methodologies used in the AVID curriculum.
Mission
The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students, and most especially the least served students who are in the middle:
• will succeed in rigorous curriculum,
• will complete a college preparatory path,
• will enter mainstream activities of the school,
• will increase their enrollment in four-year colleges, and
• will become educated, responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.
AVID's systemic approach is designed to support students and educators as they increase schoolwide/districtwide
learning and performance.
