Audience : Ninth grade students at Sweetwater High School. For the last few years, I have noticed fewer and fewer students knowing the seven continents. In fact, the students often have no idea the difference between a continent or a country. I have not designated time to go over it before, and it is not part of the designed curriculum, but without this knowledge, to many other lessons are undermined, so I have decided to use this PowerPoint assignment to teach the basics, then let the students have access to it through my class website, geodevils.org. Objectives: #1. Given a unlabeled map of the world, the students will be able to correctly label all seven continents within five minutes with no errors. #2. When asked to explain the difference between a country and a continent, the students will be able to clearly describe the difference between the two in no more than ten words using either a written or oral response. #3. Given a series of ten unlabeled maps with highlighted regions, the students with 100% accuracy shall be able to write whether the highlighted region is a continent, country, state, or city.
