 Rs 6,72,220 crores out flow on importing crude oil – transferring our
wealth to oil exporting countries to the tune of Rs 1,800 crores / day
 POL imports constitute more than one third of India's total imports
 Import dependence in case of crude oil is only going to increase
 Energy exploration and exploitation, therefore is critical for energy
security

What do we need to do?
 Explore more – simple; isn’t it? But it isn’t as simple as it may
sound – why?
 The Oil & Gas story – through a geologist’s lens – the Greatest
Gambler
 If you don’t explore you can’t produce and if you don’t find you
can’t produce and if you can’t produce we will keep transferring our
wealth
 The reality - nearly 70 % of our basins not well explored, even as
we import over 75 % of our oil demand

Reducing carbon footprint
 Energy consumption will increase as the world grows – which
energy source would be more sustainable?
 On an average Reserves of Natural Gas are much higher than
crude oil, they are less concentrated
 But are gas pools accessible to the market
 Important to increase the share of Natural Gas – higher penetration
will reduce oil import bill, beneficial to the environment through
reduced carbon footprint
