I'm looking forward to speaking today at "501 Talks Tech workshop" about SEO and digital marketing for non profits, I'll be joining Joel Meyers and Tyler LePard from 11:30 AM–3:00, at the Pacific Tower, Panoramic Center, 8th Floor, 1200 12th Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98144. Description: In partnership with Seattle Tech4Good. In today’s world, nonprofits cannot avoid communicating with donors, supporters, clients, and policymakers through digital mediums. Knowing this, how can nonprofits amplify their voice and communicate their mission? Digital Communication encompasses all the words, videos, infographics, charts and data you produce through your website, social media channels, emails and various other tools you might use for communication. Some communication is automated yet most of it is written by your marketing and communications person(s), your social media managers, program leads, ED’s or perhaps even interns, volunteers or board members. This three-and-a-half hour workshop is structured to help you understand what digital communications is and discover some strategies and tactics you can use to communicate your organizational mission, reach the right people, maximize your time and resources, and amplify your impact. In addition to reviewing strategy, messaging, and best practices, we'll also discuss how to leverage technology. This hands-on, interactive workshop will be divided into sessions where you will hear answers to the above questions and much more. Through presentations, breakout exercises and Q&A you will be able to learn from the two speakers as well as from each other. You will walk away with a much better understanding of where your needs and gaps are, and what you are doing well. As the volume of electronic medical data has grown, so has the number of third-party custodians who handle it. Organizations increasingly rely on third parties for infrastructure, managed applications and data management. Navigating the changing rules governing these third parties has become more complex. The risk of these relationships is significant: Third parties are responsible for almost half of all data breaches. Compounding these challenges are new federal requirements for managing electronic protected health information. Important changes that take effect Sept. 23, 2013 in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Omnibus Rule broaden the definition of a business associate, set new limits on how data may be used, redefine what constitutes a breach and establish new civil penalties for violations. Failing to properly assess risks inherent in these relationships and inadequately implementing monitoring controls to address the risk of third-party relationships can be costly in terms of potential penalties and damage to an organization’s reputation.

Social media can be used as powerful public health communication tools for raising awareness, connecting and engaging with your stakeholders, building and sustaining relationships, and encouraging calls to action. Yet, whether you’re a total newbie or a social media guru looking to step up your game, nothing can defeat your efforts more than winging it without a plan. In this webinar, the first session in the latest 21st Century New Media Series from CALPACT and CHL at UC Berkeley's School of Public Health, JC De Vera of the Greenlining Institute and Rae Roca-Pickett of the Young Invincibles share how they’ve built a social media strategy that works, is integrated with their overall communications plan, and helps them to create meaningful impact with the communities they serve. Enjoy this presentation from the training! Harnessing the eagerness of current students can produce amazing results. If you have campus tour guides, you know this already. Why limit student’s connectivity to campus visitors? Some call them “online ambassadors” but we call them “bloggers on steroids.” In this presentation you will learn why you should expand your institution’s blogger presence across social networking platforms including: YouTube, Twitter, Formspring, Facebook, and more. You’ll also walk away with ideas on integrating their efforts across campus and we will share our best advice on how to manage these students.

Retrieval augmented generation (RAG) is the most popular style of large language model application to emerge from 2023. The most basic style of RAG works by vectorizing your data and injecting it into a vector database like Milvus for retrieval to augment the text output generated by an LLM. This is just the beginning. One of the ways that we can extend RAG, and extend AI, is through multilingual use cases. Typical RAG is done in English using embedding models that are trained in English. In this talk, we’ll explore how RAG could work in languages other than English. We’ll explore French, Chinese, and Polish.

Following the popularity of "Cloud Revolution: Exploring the New Wave of Serverless Spatial Data," we're thrilled to announce this much-anticipated encore webinar. In this sequel, we'll dive deeper into the Cloud-Native realm by uncovering practical applications and FME support for these new formats, including COGs, COPC, FlatGeoBuf, GeoParquet, STAC, and ZARR. Building on the foundation laid by industry leaders Michelle Roby of Radiant Earth and Chris Holmes of Planet in the first webinar, this second part offers an in-depth look at the real-world application and behind-the-scenes dynamics of these cutting-edge formats. We will spotlight specific use-cases and workflows, showcasing their efficiency and relevance in practical scenarios. Discover the vast possibilities each format holds, highlighted through detailed discussions and demonstrations. Our expert speakers will dissect the key aspects and provide critical takeaways for effective use, ensuring attendees leave with a thorough understanding of how to apply these formats in their own projects. Elevate your understanding of how FME supports these cutting-edge technologies, enhancing your ability to manage, share, and analyze spatial data. Whether you're building on knowledge from our initial session or are new to the serverless spatial data landscape, this webinar is your gateway to mastering cloud-native formats in your workflows.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system. The microservices honeymoon is over. When starting a new project or revamping a legacy monolith, teams started looking for alternatives to microservices. The Modular Monolith, or 'Modulith', is an architecture that reaps the benefits of (vertical) functional decoupling without the high costs associated with separate deployments. This talk will delve into the advantages and challenges of this progressive architecture, beginning with exploring the concept of a 'module', its internal structure, public API, and inter-module communication patterns. Supported by spring-modulith, the talk provides practical guidance on addressing the main challenges of a Modultith Architecture: finding and guarding module boundaries, data decoupling, and integration module-testing. You should not miss this talk if you are a software architect or tech lead seeking practical, scalable solutions. Corporate and higher education. Two industries that, in the past, have had a clear divide with very little crossover. The difference in goals, learning styles and objectives paved the way for differing learning technologies platforms to evolve. Now, those stark lines are blurring as both sides are discovering they have content that’s relevant to the other. Join Tammy Rutherford as she walks through the pros and cons of corporate and higher ed collaborating.
