1. I am looking into Funeral Party as I felt that this is a band that can be related to And The
Winner Is… in genre, style and demean. They both display Rock, Alternative and Punk
genres.
SONG - Just Because
DIRECTOR - Mike Relm
RELEASE DATE - 30th August 2010
The opening like a film sets the scene. The
text front is coloured in red this is to
represent romance and danger that will
appear in the music video. The red titles
also amplify the black and white of the
video. The black and white might be to
represent the neutral gender in the video.
The lead singer crouched on the ground
looking glum and with the red colouring
suggests that this music video is about love and the problem it causes. Attention is brought
to the singer by having him sitting in an area where the wall is lighten by a lamp it. This
attracts attention because the human eye is drawn to light areas. The way that the
attention has been brought to the singer suggest that the music video is going to fixate on
this person, which is usual for a band as the lead singer is normally the face of the band.
Although as the music video continues we are introduced to the other members of the
band.
After the opening sequence the beat of the
music starts to began as it does the singer
starts to get up and move towards the camera.
Jump cuts are used to go with the strums of the
guitar these give the impression of a stop
motion effect. As the music video continues
to play it become apparent that the music
video is narrative and performance based
which shows an overall energetic feel for the
band. The jump cuts then move on to
changing with the hit of the snare drum.
Throughout the music video the video
changes shots with the beat not the lyrics.
2. However the lyrics are not left out of the music
video. From analysing the lyrics I came to the
conclusion that the song is about a person
loosing his way because of a girl yet he’s
having fun while he does it. This Idea mainly
came from these lyrics ‘I’m still lost cause I got
something to do’ and ‘Its a feeling you can
never describe’. The idea was also backed up
when I watched the music video, its filled with
scenes of the lead singer and a girl messing
about and robbing stores.
Funeral Party has only recently stated to become noticed the record label would want to
play on this and promote the band in a good light. Through the music video there are
scenes of the band messing about and having fun with each other. This was done to help
them become noticeable and likable.
3. This is Funeral
Party’s debut album
and was released on
the 24th February 2011.
The name of the band is in a simplistic black front that makes it easy to read. This is so
that at quick glance a viewer can easily understand who the band is. On the other hand
the title of the album is harder to read. The gold relaxed front suggests the bands music as
being relaxed.
The title of the album, Golden Age of Knowhere has a range of possible meanings. The
golden age is believed to mean peace, harmony, stability, and prosperity this could be in
reference to them as a band.
The photograph has been edited to look like it is old and has been over developed which
has caused the colouring. This make the photograph dramatic, which also makes it
standout. Causing it to catch the viewers eye. The uses of the photo helps to make the
band to become recognisable as its the first thing the viewer see’s.
In an over impression of the CD cover you are able to understand that this is not a solo
artists or boy band's album. As they would have just a picture of themselves in a situated
pose. Where this is a picture of the band playing to the audience, however the way the
image is taken it gives the impression that they are playing for you.
4. Target Audience for Funeral Party
From looking at the bands music videos and album cover
I have assumed that they are trying to promote their music to the 16-25 age range. In the
music video they are shown messing about or playing at a party. I believe these items are
shown in this way to make the band seem down to earth and relatable. The way that they
act in the videos are the same way that the 16-25 year olds would seem to act at a party,
except for the general theft of food. The editing has also been done in a way that would
attracted 16-25. The jump cut editing suggests energy and enthusiasm, an appearance
that targets a 16-25 audience.
The clothing the band are wearing in the video and on the picture on the right are of a
stereotypical rock band. They are wearing skinny jeans that represent the rock theme. I
can assume this as bands like Paramore, Futures, You Me At Six, Red Hot Chili Peppers,
all of which wear skinny jeans. The shoes and clothing also fit into to the rock band theme.
This style also relates to the clothing that 16-25 year olds wear, suggestion that this is their
target audience.
