1. Bringing people in the UK and Haryana together The Work of the Buwan Kothi International Trust

2. The story begins in 2005 with the wedding of Gilly Mundy and Debbie Quargnolo in Buwan Kothi a village in Haryana in northern India

3. An isolated rural community of around 36 farming families, which lacks many basic amenities such as a school or a local doctor

4. Visitors from the UK were overwhelmed by the warmth and generosity of local people and decided to give something back

5. By raising funds to improve education opportunities, health and the environment in collaboration with local people

6. Gilly’s sudden death in March 2007, aged only 36, gave us renewed energy and a plan: to build a school named in his memory

7. In the course of one year through sponsored events and individual donations we raised over £52,000

8. Allowing us to pay for work to be completed, by April 2008 on phase 1 of our major project

9. The Gilly Mundy Memorial Community School a non-profit school with 200+ pupils

10. benefiting the wider community Over the next year we aim to complete work on the school and start work on a Resource Centre

11. and schoolchildren in Britain And strengthen ties between the children at the Gilly Mundy Memorial Community School
