Astragalus – A Miracle Herb That Protects DNA And Fights
Disease
But not all foods are created equal.
Avoiding processed foods and preparing your meals
with whole food ingredients is key. By doing this, you
have the opportunity to incorporate some of the
planets miracle ‘superfoods’ into your diet.
There are many superfoods that when consumed as a
part of your diet, have the ability to strengthen your
immune system and in some cases, fight off a whole
host of diseases.
One such food is the herb, Astragalus.
Although relatively unknown in the West, Astragalus root or Astragalus Membranaceus has been used for
centuries in traditional Chinese medicine; and to great effect.
When you contract any form of disease you have a two-fold problem. Firstly, your immune response capacity is
weakened. This then allows any disease to evade the immune system and literally run riot.
The Astragalus herb is extremely potent and when consumed on a regular basis, has the power to not only bullet-
proof your immune response, but also protect and repair any existing DNA damage you may have.
Who in their right mind wouldn’t want this disease busting superstar on their team?
Why Is Astragalus so Effective?
Researched since the early 80’s, Astragalus has been shown to increase the number of hunter T-Cells, leukocytes
and interferon in the blood, all of which help to inhibit foreign substances and disease.1
U.S studies have also shown that Astragalus is an ‘adaptogenic’ herb, which means it has the ability to seek out
rogue cells, viruses, bacteria and other pathogens that may invade the body.
At the Budwig Center, we are passionate about health
and believe that many of life’s chronic diseases can
be prevented, just by adopting a healthy lifestyle,
balanced diet and eating the right foods.
2. Due to this, Astragalus has also been shown to boost the
effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments in
tumor patients.
In one Italian study (Morazzoni, Bombardelli), breast tumor
patients were given a combination of Astragalus and
Ligustrum. Overall, the results showed a startling reduction in
mortality from 50% to 10%.
This wonder herb has also been used extensively in China
where it is known as Huang Qi. It is one of the main herbs
used in traditional Chinese medicine and is commonly used in
the fight against Hepatitis.
Recent research has suggested that Astragalus is also able to
activate a key enzyme called Telomerase which promotes the
production of Telomeres.2
Telomeres are attached to the end of our DNA chromosomes and help keep the DNA together during the
replication process. In simple terms, they act a little like the plastic end caps of a shoelace, preventing the lace
from fraying and becoming damaged.
As Telomere degradation is related to eventual cell death and hence aging and the onset of chronic disease, it is
vital that they are protected to prevent premature aging and increase robust health and longevity.
Although there are a number of active chemical components at work, researchers believe that the main key
constituents are polysaccharides and saponins. It is these two phytochemicals, which provide us with the greatest
number of health benefits.
Health Benefits of Astragalus
In addition to the above, there are many other reasons that you might want to take Astragalus. These may include,
but are not limited to:-
Reduces metastatic spread increasing survival rates
Helps with heart disease and high blood pressure 3/4
Reduces inflammation
Aids digestion
Improves liver function
Boosts the immune system
Minimizes the side-effects of Chemotherapy
Can be used as a general tonic
Treats burns and abscesses
Prevent common colds
Respiratory infections
Fibromyalgia
Anemia
Help with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Kidney disease
How Do I Take Astragalus?
3. The best way to take Astragalus is in supplement form using capsules.
It is recommend to take between 2,000 and 3,000 mcgs per day in order to get the most benefit.
As it is the dried Astragalus root that is used, it is also acceptable to chop the root and infuse as a tea. It can be
added to a winter tonic to prevent colds and flu or used in soups and broths.
There have been no reported side-effects of taking Astragalus in any form.
Who Shouldn’t Take It?
Everyone would benefit from daily consumption of Astragalus. However, to weigh on the side of caution, very few
supplements including Astragalus should be taken by pregnant or nursing mothers.
Where Can I Purchase Astragalus?
Although Astragalus can be found in a number of health stores, the products are not always of a high quality and
in some cases, little benefit may be experienced.
You can purchase our own unique potent blend of Astragalus Plus, which also contains the tumor fighting
Shiitake mushroom extract. These are the very same supplements that we use with our clinical patients here at
our clinic. You can purchase Astragalus Plus via secure store at https://www.budwigcenter.com/store/
If you are in the U.S you can purchase via the Life Integrative Med site at https://www.lifeintegrativemed.com
