Eagle Scout Info
1. Path to Eagle Scout = Path to Fun!
Troop Highlights and Advantages:
● Summer camps rotate yearly through different California locations
(Chawanakee, Catalina Island, Wolfeboro).
● An annual high adventure trip is offered each summer (Philmont Scout
Ranch in New Mexico; Florida SeaBase; and Northern Tier).
● Local troop fun includes organized campouts (e.g., camping at the Santa
Cruz Boardwalk last month and fishing next weekend at Lake Chabot).
Campouts include fishing, hiking and rafting.
● Occasional day activities include bowling, paintball, rock climbing, cycling,
skiing and hiking.
● Community service opportunities include Scouting for food; Fourth of July
Fair involvement; the Pear Festival; the Moraga Triathlon; the Moraga
Community Fair; and beach cleanups.
● We boast a very high Eagle completion rate:
− A smaller troop allows for leadership opportunities.
− Scout leaders know every scout very well and provide necessary
guidance along the path to an Eagle.
− T 246 parents are qualified to teach 11 of the 12 Eagle-required merit
badges. The badges are taught on a regular 3-year schedule. The
12th
Eagle badge is offered at all summer camps.
− 3 to 4 optional badges are offered troopwide each year (e.g., auto
mechanics, railroading, rock climbing and weather will be taught on 4
weekend days this school year).
− No previous scouting experience is necessary to join our troop.
Please note that some activities are mandatory; others are optional. We expect
responsible participation, but we fully understand striking a balance with family/school
and other activities.
