2. Anecdotal observation
When I began my placement, I
noticed right off the bat that this
was a very physically active group
of children.
They would always run around in
and out of the classroom, always
jumping, playing tag, they
seemed to be very energetic.
Outside in the playground, no
child would every stand for more
than 2 minutes… I counted!
In and out of the classroom the
children would ask each other
questions like; how far can you
run? How fast can you go? They
would race, play tag, and throw
balls around all the time outside.
One thing was certain; all the
children would play in pairs or
teams.
Possible Cues
Developmental cues
Differentiate fast from
slow
Aware of what a “race” is
Knowledgeable of basic
sports balls; I want to
further that with different
ones
Foot ball, soccer ball, base
ball…
Interest cues
Races, trying new sports,
differentiate big muscles
from small ones
3. Small group experience (circle) to confirm interest in the topic:
(describe all parts of your circle)
For this section I sparked collaboration through an interactive
book with a CD about a dog that is a super hero with super powers…
can run really fast, lift heavy, can jump high etc.
I chose this method because it would attract the children to the
sound affects and the drawings of the book. Since the children are very
sensory oriented.
Once the story began, they really seemed to enjoy the book. They
were laughing, jumping, cheering etc.
Once the book was finished, I went over what they thought about
it, what they liked, did they think that a person could have those “super
powers” do they think they could be strong like the dog?
The children really helped me in the process of this phase,
because they are so imaginative.
What do they know about physical fitness ( WEB BELOW)
4. Procedure:
Book
CD
CD player
Floor space if the children want to act out the story
Rationale:
After our circle time adventure with the super hero dog, I realized that the
children had even more enthusiasm regarding physical fitness. Over the next few
weeks, I plan to ensure that the children continue to express their energy through
physical activities through all of the domains.
During this time the children will :
Play hopscotch, some for the first time
Match images
Differentiate big muscles and small muscles
Express their artistic side through coloring sports balls
Dance and learn with barney
Share their ideas
Catch bubbles… the most fun!
I will conduct a video for you to see your children learning and growing!
