from Boundary Street, south to Bay Street. A few of the local
b usinesses, including the Black Cha m ber of Commerce, two law
offices and a funeral home, s till exis t alo ng th is s treet, b ut Prince Street
the majority have le ft the downtown area. Th is plan creates
a new food based focus for the neig hborhood to spu r local
indus try, wh ile co ncu rrently adding additio nal resid ential
units that will bring the required support base for these
b usinesses. It preserves the h is toric s truct u res and character
of the blocks, and provid es specific places for civic b uildings, King Street

Th is simple sid eyard house form is d esigned to fit sea mlessly into
many neig hborhoods with in the City of Beaufort. As illus trated below,
a variety of use s and com binatio n s of uses can be accommodated
with in th is form. Th is allows the b uilding to be placed in a rang e of
settings, from more u rban as a live work, to more ru ral as a duplex.
Its incremental growth pattern also increases its flexibility.
Th is b uilding is d esigned to spu r the local eco n omy as well. One owner
