inhabits the remote and pristine tropical reefs of the Asia/Pacific region.
“IfirstlearnttoscubadiveinTahitiin1995 and immediately fell in love with the
marine environment and underwater photography. Since then I have dived in
various locations around the world from the Great Barrier Reef to the Caribbean
and the Red Sea, but my favorite destination remains the region bounded by the
Philippines, Indonesia, and east to the Solomon's - known as the coral triangle. “
The “coral triangle” is a geographical term so named as it refers to a roughly
triangular area of the tropical marine waters of Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New
Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste, that contain at least 500
species of reef-building corals in each eco region. The Coral Triangle is recognized
as the global centre of marine biodiversity and a global priority for conservation.
Its biological resources sustain the lives of over 120 million people. More than
3,000 species of fish live in the Coral Triangle, and it also provides habitat to six
out of the world's seven marine turtle species. Steve feels that “the opportunities
for storytelling through imagery abound and through my underwater
photography hopefully I can I help promote public awareness of the importance
and beauty of our oceans. The ocean allows me to apply my own creative style
where I try to convey energy and emotion in my images. I enjoy capturing the
interplay of light and water, whether I’m shooting surf action, underwater
2. portraiture, yacht racing or when creating images of the magnificent underwater
reef systems and marine life of the Indo Pacific region.”
