What Our Government is Doing

         Anti-Bullying Laws
 41 states have enacted some form of an
            anti-bullying law
 Prohibits any behavior that can be
                considered harassment, intimidation or
                bullying.
 Kansas passed an anti-bullying law in 2007.

         Bullying Prevention Programs
 “The Kansas Bullying Prevention program
is designed to provide the tools needed to
            recognize bullying behaviors and take
appropriate steps to redirect the behavior.”
              StopBullyingKansas.org
What Our School Is Doing

 Anti-Bullying Task Force
 Teachers, counselors, parents, and students meet once a
month to discuss and address bullying issues within the
     school and community.

 Stop Bullying Now! Campaign
 Members of school community participate in ongoing
     training sessions, specialized classroom
     lessons, presentations, and out-of-school programs.
      StopBullyingNow.com
What YOU Can Do

 Peer Advocacy
 Speak up when you see bullying
 Reach out to others who are bullied
 Be a friend whenever you see bullying

 Family Activities
 The following activities are great ideas for your family to do
together to help prevent bullying and bullying behavior.
Learn to Handle Emotions
 Brainstorm special ways to stay calm.
Breathe deeply, go for a walk, or ride a bike
                                   and get exercise.
 Focus on a happy memory. Brainstorm
special, happy memories with your family.
Take turns describing memories in great
detail. How did you feel in the moment?
                                   What made the moment special?
 Think of a happy or silly tune. You may
want to make up a fun song together or use
                                   a favorite chant or song.
SpongeBob is NOT handling
his emotions very effectively!  By learning the skills needed to deal with
anger or fear, children will be able to
handle their emotions more easily when
getting into an argument or facing a bully.
Join a Team

 Team sports are a great way to
boost self-esteem and learn how to
  cooperate with others.
 You may want to join a soccer or
softball team, or try out for
  gymnastics or dance.
 Getting plenty of physical exercise
helps children grow up to be
  strong, healthy, and confident
  adults. Athletics also help children
learn to work well with others and
  stand up for themselves.
Get To Know Your Classmates

 Do you both (student and
                           parents) know the names
of all the children in the
                           class?

 See if you can learn the
                           names of the children in
                           the class together, as well
                           as one special thing about
                           each child.
