2. In order to understand the Twitter ToS,
we need to consider not just the wording
but we need to look at the implications to
the user
of the fact that Twitter is a public
communications service

to see if this really is true!

7. Freedom of Expression and Liability

8. Is freedom of expression possible on Twitter ?
YES,
but you are responsible for what you post

9. YOU are accountable for any consequences
resulting from the content you post on Twitter

10. TWITTER suggests:
You should consider the fact that your tweets
may be viewed around the world instantly

11. CONSIDER that your tweets might be
taken out of context by diverse audiences

12. ACTION can be taken
by parties that perceive themselves
to have been injured by your Tweets

13. CONSIDER the legal implications of your tweets

14. A case against a tweeter named ‘Mr Monkey’
was brought to court in California by the
Tyneside council in England
due to alleged slanders on Twitter

15. Ownership of Content

16. YOU own what you post

17. Copyright and reuse of your Content

18. BY using their services,
you license Twitter to publish your tweets

19. BUT Twitter and its partners can do whatever they
like with your tweets,
wherever they like,
and they owe you nothing for it

20. YOU give Twitter a
• world-wide,
• royalty free licence
• with the right to sub-license your content

21. Twitter can do the following with your tweets
• Use, copy
• Reproduce, process
• Adapt, modify
• Publish, transmit
• Display and distribute
READ: Your content is their treasure

22. IF you find that your content is used elsewhere,
you can insist that you are credited as the owner

23. Your Privacy

24. IDENTIFYING information including your IP address,
browser type, and Web pages visited
may be logged by Twitter

25. YOUR information may be shared
with Twitter’s trusted third parties

26. SALE of your information may occur
in the event that Twitter is involved in a bankruptcy,
merger, acquisition, reorganization,
or sale of assets.

28. SERVICES are not directed to persons
under the age of 13 years

29. Your identity online revisited

30. LETS reconsider our original proposition

31. YOUR tweets will reach your followers and others
exactly as you sent them

32. BUT global audiences might read different
meanings into your tweets

33. AND Twitter or their partners
might alter or present your tweets
in contexts you never imagined

34. SO do my tweets accurately reflect
the meaning that I intended?
