2. POET-DSM Advanced Biofuels
two innovative companies – one shared vision
• One of world’s largest
ethanol producers
• Efficient, vertically
integrated approach to
production
• Pilot-scale cellulosic bioethanol plant
• 27 facilities producing 1.6
bln gal. of ethanol and 9
bln lbs. of DDGS
Page
• A global leader in industrial
biotech focused on Life
Sciences and Material
Sciences
• Committed to sustainability
as a key business and
societal driver
• 22,000 employees bring
annual sales of $13 bln
4. The Future
• POET-DSM Advanced Biofuels has a tremendous amount of
potential & value to domestic markets
• According to the EPA, 350-400 new biorefineries will have to be
constructed by 2022 to meet the 16 BGPY cellulosic ethanol
volume requirement in the RFS
– EPA forecasts 7.8 billion gallons of cellulosic bio-ethanol from
corn crop residue by 2022
• POET-DSM Advanced Biofuels is expected to produce revenue in
the first half of 2014
– Revenue will come from the sale of cellulosic bio-ethanol,
biogas and license income of the technology package

5. Renewable Fuel Standard
The RFS drives volume, RINS bring value and future
engines need the octane of mid level blends

Breaks monopoly big oil has on price controls
Helps fulfill the RFS
Reduces our need for imported oil
Helps allow café standards to be realized
Helps T3 objectives to be met
Lowers costs
Reduces aromatic content in fuel
Strengthens rural America
Offers higher octane fuel, critical to auto manufacturers
meeting café standards

9. Rolling it Out: National
Impacts
U.S. has 1 Billion tons of
available biomass
– That’s 85 - 90 billion gallons annually
– Equal to 60% of U.S. transportation fuel supply
– And…America imports 60% of its petroleum!
Cellulosic ethanol represents thousands of
good, green jobs at home

10. WHY CORN CROP RESIDUE?
-Economically viable
-Available harvest and transportation equipment
-Harvest convenience
-Does not slow the corn grain harvest
-Ease of biomass transportation
-Environmentally sustainable
-Good ethanol yield
-Represents at least 5 billion gallons of the 80 billion from biomass in
U.S.
-Offers a replicable model for rapid expansion
-LIBERTY will purchase over $20 million in feedstock from area farmers
-All biomass is local – fits with grain based ethanol facilities

11. Cellulosic Ethanol Economic Benefit
• Each plant brings an investment of $200
million+ and hundreds of construction jobs.
• Workforce of 40+ people brings over $2
million into the community per year before
add-on affects.
• The plant will spend over $20 million for
biomass acquisition each year.
Page
12. Energy Security & the Environment
• A single plant will reduce oil imports by about 1 million
barrels per year substituting U.S. jobs for about $50
million in annual foreign spending.
• Cellulosic ethanol has to be at least 60% better than
gasoline in green house gas emissions. A single plant
will reduce over 210,000 tons of CO2 per year or the
equivalent of about 35,000 cars.
• We gather about 25% of the corn stover from the field,
which has been demonstrated to be long term
sustainable.

Impact of Project LIBERTY
on for rural America:
Page
14. Project LIBERTY at a glance
•
Production: 25 million gallons of bio-ethanol per year
•
Feedstock use: 770 tons of biomass per day (approx.
285,000 tons per year)
•
Byproduct is energy, enough to power the facility and export
to the adjacent plant
•
Expected start of production: first part of 2014
•
Project cost: $250 million
PAGE 14
Page
16. Project LIBERTY
• Began construction on cellulosic biorefinery in early
2012
• 20 million gallon cellulosic ethanol plant ramping
up to 25 million gallons
• Co-located with existing grain-based ethanol plant
utilizing some existing infrastructure
• POET-DSM designed sustainable biomass supply
system
• Lignin and co-products used to produce biogas and
burned in solid fuel boiler for green energy used in
grain ethanol plant
