Transport:
The Plasma Membrane: Functions                                      Protein channels and pumps transport specific
                                                                    substances into the cell

• Defines the cell’s boundary
• Selectively permeable membrane that                               Enzymatic Activity:

        Attachment to the cytoskeleton and

        cell, binding the cell to its environment and
        supporting the cytoskeleton
