CBCP calls same-sex weddings
held in Baguio illegal and an insult
      to the Catholic Church
After New York passed a law legalizing gay
   marriage last week, several same-sex
weddings were held in Baguio City over the
   weekend, and the Catholic Bishops’
Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is
adamant that such unions will never be
recognized in the Catholic Church, reports
   ABS-CBN News.
Senate bill 2814 : ANTI-ETHNIC, RACIAL OR RELIGIOUS
DISCRIMINATION AND PROFILING ACT O F 2011

Ronald Reyes, a lawyer of the CBCP, said they
had no qualms about the bill before but became
concerned when the bill was amended and “sex,
gender, sexual orientation, gender identity” were
included. “It’s opening the door for same sex
marriages, which our country doesn’t allow,”
Reyes told reporters. He said the Catholic
church, which would not officiate same sex
marriages, might be punished if the bill became
law. “This is alarming and it might change our
 society,” Reyes said.
“Politics of Homosexuality”
         by: Andrew Sullivan
 Marriage is not simply a private
contract; it is a public and social
      recognition of a private
commitment. As such it is the
 highest public recognition of our
personal integrity. Denying it to gay
people is the most public affront
   possible to their civil equality.
What reasons
do gay and
lesbian people
give for society
supporting
same-sex
marriages?

CATHOLIC
CHURCH TO
RESPOND TO
THIS
QUESTION OF
SAME SEX
MARRIAGES?
TWO ASPECTS OF MARRIAGE:
PROCREATIVE ASPECT
• Procreation is not just a biological function because
humans do not just anonymously meet and mate
  and move on.
• Procreation before conception.
• Procreation continues after conception. (love,
  attention, education and guidance)
UNITIVE ASPECT
• A complementarity and union whose relationship
  transcends sexual differences
To allow same-sex
  marriage is to deny the
inherent procreative nature
 of marriage and therefore
 change its very definition
  and essentially voids it.
Sexuality is not merely
a matter of biology,
nor is it simply a
source of personal
pleasure.
FAMILIARIS CONSORTIO
        by: John Paul II

Sexuality consists the inner most
being of the human person as
such. It is realized in a truly
human way only if it is an integral
part of the love by which a man
and a woman commit themselves
totally to one another until death.
The law cannot require a married
couple to have children any more
than it can force them to love each
other or stay together for life. But,
at the very least, the law can
require that a marriage be modeled
in accord with its inherent
procreative nature which means, of
course, a male and a female.
The potential for children
justifies additional civil
requirements, namely,
that a couple be old
enough and not closely
related.
G.D. SULLIVAN, S.S. asks the
question:

        IF ONE ELIMINATES
     PROCREATION FROM THE
       BASIC DEFINITION OF
    MARRIAGE, ON WHAT LEGAL
     BASIS COULD ONE STOP
      THREE PEOPLE FROM
     GETTING MARRIED, OR A
    MOTHER AND A SON, ETC.?
SOCIETAL AND GOVERNMENTAL
CONCERNS

            HAS ITS ROOT IN
            THE BELIEF THAT
            MARRIAGE
            CONSTITUTES THE
            MOST BENEFICIAL
            ENVIRONMENT FOR
            RAISING THE NEXT
            GENERATION OF
            CITIZENS
IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO

THESE BENEFITS ARE SEEN

Indissolubility aspect is excluded if either
spouses reserves to himself the option to

The Church maintains that marriage is for life,
therefore people not committing themselves to
the permanent status of marriage with one
partner are not contracting validly.

     Conditions imposed if not

Notas do Editor

  1. For gay and lesbian couples who are raising children, the fact that they cannot marry means that only one of the two parents can have legal custody of the child. In the event the couple separates or the legal parent dies, the nonadoptive parent faces a legal nightmare.
  2. SOCIOLOGICAL
  3. Paragraph 11
  4. IT IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE THIS POINT: THE BENEFITS ACCORDED TO FAMILIES BY GOV’T AND SOCIETY ARE NOT PRIMARILY RENDERED TO INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE MARRIED THOUGH THEY DO EXTEND TO MARRIED COUPLES WITHOUT CHILDREN AND TO COUPLES WHOSE CHILDREN ARE GROWN. EVEN SO, THE BENEFITS ARE RENDERED TO ESTABLISH A NURTURING ENVIRONMENT FOR CHILDREN.
  5. PROCREATIVE ASPECT-the right of each spouse to productive sexual intercourse with the other.UNITY-the obligation to be affectively and sexually faithful to each other.INDISSOLUBILITY-the obligation to be permanently man and wife to each other till the death of either.
