This initiative, begun in 2007 by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), focuses not only on teens, but also on their parents, educators and other concerned adults. In today’s information rich world, we need “to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies” (ALA News, 15 Feb. 2011). The 2011 theme, Mix and Mash @ your library, focuses on encouraging teens to use library resources to express their creativity and to develop their own unique content to share with others. To celebrate TTW, BSHS LMC is sponsoring a Book Trailer Contest. Student entries, due March 4th, will be judged during TTW. The winners will be announced March 11th and their videos posted on the library website. During lunches on Monday and Tuesday, students can learn how to use readily available software and web tools to improve and store their work. Want to know if a book or video is available in our media center without walking a mile or calling us? Check out Destiny, our new catalog, which is available on all district computers with Internet access. Open Internet Explorer and type the word “destiny” in the web address bar. Choose Boiling Springs High School from the list of district catalogs, and the adventure can begin! One of the best features of the new catalog is Destiny Quest. To begin your search in a more visually appealing catalog, choose “Destiny Quest” from the menu on the left. In addition to providing a means to search the catalog, Destiny Quest can also:Show you the top ten books being checked out by BSHS studentsLet you see what new titles are being added to our collectionProvide you with resource lists created by BSHS teachers and librariansDestiny Catalog Save the date! Greenville County Schools is once again sponsoring the Upstate Technology Conference at Wade Hampton High School this year. The conference features two phenomenal keynote speakers from Discovery Education: Brad Fountain and Hall Davidson.
