대전 시민단체
국제교류 지원
Support for International
Exchange of Civilian
Organizations

지난 9월 27일 대전광역시 국제교류센터가 공모한 ‘2013
대전 시민단체 국제교류 지원’ 사업에 대전여성단체연합,
(사)풀뿌리 사람들, GCM 좋은 사람들의 시민단체가 선정됐
다. 대전 시민단체에의 국제교류 지원은 각국 시민들과 국
제교류를 통해 대전 시민의 국제적 역량을 강화하고자 하는
대전국제교류센터의 정책적 지원이다. 일본 시민단체와의
교류를 통한 선진 장애인 시설과 고용ㆍ앞선 정보를 습득할
수 있었으며, 우리의 발달된 IT 기술을 필리핀 청소년들에게
아낌없이 전수하는 계기가 되었다. 11월 28일에서 12월 13
일까지 17일간 이어진 이번 행사는 국경을 넘어 시민단체
가 하나로 화합하는 자리였다.

The Daejeon International Center publicly invited civilian
organizations to apply for support for international exchange
through their “2013 Presentation for Daejeon Civilian International
Exchange.” The following organizations,Korean Women’s
Association United, The Grassroots, and GCM (Good Citizen
Members) were chosen for support after review. The support of
civilian organizations of the Daejeon International Center is intended
as a new social policy in order to strengthen the international
prowess of the city of Daejeon through international exchange on
a local, community based level. Through communicative efforts
with Japanese civilian organizations we have collectively acquired
information on international exchange, generalized services and
job opportunities for the disabled, and have taught IT trade skills to
Filipino youths in need.This exchange took place during November
28th ~ December 13thand truly has been an opportunity in which
civilian efforts across borders could collaboratively do social good.

한국학 센터와 교류 협정

지난 11월 20일 대전광역시 국제교류센터는 베트남 호치민
시에 개설될 한국학 센터에 한복을 기증하고 추후 원활한
교류협정을 약속했다. 호치민시의 한국학 센터는 앞으로 베
트남의 호치민시에 한국과 대전을 알리는 전초기지가 될 예
정이다.

On November 20 th, the Daejeon International Center donated a
collection of Hanbokin honor of the inauguration of the newly
founded Center of Korean Culture Studies in Ho Chi Minh City,
Vietnam, and signed a treaty promising progressiveexchanges
between the two organizations in the future. The Center of Korean
Studies is expected to become a foundational outpost for the
promotion of the city of Daejeon in Ho Chi Minh City.

대전 알리기
UCC 경연대회
Dynamic Daejeon UCC
Contest

지난 10월 15일부터 11월 30일까지 대전시민을 대상으로
‘재미있고 역동적인 대전’을 캐치프레이즈로 한 “대전 알리
기 UCC 경연대회”를 공모하였다. 많은 공모작 가운데 총 5
개 팀이 선정되어 12월 18일 대전광역시 국제교류센터에서
시상식을 가졌다. 선정된 작품은 대전광역시 국제교류센터
의 홈페이지에 게시될 예정이다.

The 2013 Dynamic Daejeon UCC Contest ran from October 15th to
November 30th with “Fun and Dynamic Daejeon” as the proposed
catchphrase. The contest was open to all residents of the city of
Daejeon and a total of 5 entries were selected from a large variety
of entries representing the many views and perspectives of our
city. An award ceremony was held on December 18that the Daejeon
International Center in which the recipientswere awarded monetary
prizes. The winning entries are scheduled to be published on the
Daejeon International Website.

11월 17일 대전시청 남문광장에서 ‘제1회 대전 국제 벼룩시
장’이 개최됐다. 이날은 대전시민과 대전에 거주하는 외국인
들이 나눔을 통해 하나되고, 문화를 통해 하나되는 기쁨과
즐거움이 가득한 자리였다. 필리핀 태풍 피해 돕기 모금과
판매 금액의 10%를 자선단체에 기부하는 등 뜻 깊은 시간
을 가졌다.

On November 17th the 1st International Charity Flea Market opened
at the South Gate Square of Daejeon City Hall. The event was a great
success despite the adverse weather, becoming an opportunity for
the Korean and foreign residents of Daejeon to come together in fun
and happiness through the spirit of culture and sharing. In addition
to 10% of the total profits going towards people in need, parts of
the proceeds were also donated to victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the
Philippines.

기부도 하는 즐거운 축제
제1회 대전 국제 자선 벼룩시장
“How much?” “Ten thousand Won!” 한산하던 대전시청 남문광장에 가격을 묻고 흥정하는 소리로 가득 찼다.
나이와 국적을 가리지 않고 너나 할 것 없이 저마다 손때 묻은 물건들을 사고파느라 활기가 넘쳐흐르던
국제 자선 벼룩시장의 현장을 담아보았다.

따뜻함이 오고 가는 시장
흥겨운 공연과 자선 경매 행사도 이어져 지루할 틈 없었던
국제 벼룩시장. 사람들이 기부한 생필품을 경매에 부치고, 수
익을 필리핀 지진 성금으로 보내고자 마련된 뜻 깊은 행사에

많은 사람들이 동참했다. 사람들은 경매현장을 에워싸고 흥미
롭게 현장을 지켜봤다. 한국어, 영어로 동시에 행사가 진행되
어 모든 벼룩시장 참여자들이 쉽게 경매에 참가할 수 있었다.
앞으로 또 올 거냐는 사회자의 질문에 “네!”, “Definitely!”와
같은 밝은 대답이 들려왔다. 국적에 상관없이 아이들을 데리
고 가족이 함께 물건을 팔러 오거나, 구경하러 와서 스스럼

올해 제1회를 맞이한 대전 국제 자선 벼룩시장은 대전 시민
들과 대전에 거주하는 외국인들이 벼룩시장을 통해 서로 교
류하고, 판매 금액의 10%를 자선단체에 기부하기 때문에 더
욱 의미 있는 행사다. 맑은 하늘에 갑자기 눈이 내리는 변덕
스러운 날씨도 벼룩시장을 찾은 사람들의 발길을 돌려놓진
못했다.
아기자기한 수공예품부터 책, 의류, 자전거까지 다양한 물건
들을 싼 가격에 구입하고자 서툰 영어로 손짓, 발짓을 섞어
가며 흥정을 하는 시민들과 아이들을 보니 벼룩시장은 순식
간에 국제교육장이 된 것 같았다. 또한 시장에서 빠질 수 없
는 것은 먹는 재미. 멕시코와 일본, 캄보디아, 베트남 요리를
맛볼 수 있는 푸드 코트까지 있어 ‘국제’ 벼룩시장은 더욱 인
기가 좋았다.

없이 재밌게 어우러질 수 있는 곳. 벌써 다음 벼룩시장이 기
다려지는 이유다.

people asking prices and bargaining with each other over personal possessions they had laid out to sell.
We tried to capture energetic moments from the first Daejeon International Flea Market, where people,
regardless of age and nationality, came together to buy and sell their once treasured belongings.

The first Daejeon International Flea Market was a meeting
ground for Daejeon citizens and foreigners living in Daejeon
to interchange cultural experiences with each other and also
a significant event where 10 percent of the profit of each

바쁘고 보람찬 한국에서의 시간
Busy and Fruitful Days

결혼을 통해 한국에 온 지 10년, 요즘 김토아 씨는 하루하루를 바쁘게 보내
고 있다. 국제교류센터에서 한국어 수업을 듣다가 센터 직원의 추천으로 베
트남어 강사 자원봉사를 시작했으며, 4년 전부터 꾸준히 출입국 관리사무소
를 통해 다문화가정의 의사소통 문제로 생기는 분쟁 해결을 돕고 있다. 또 올
해는 한남대학교에서 이중 언어강사 과정을 마치게 된다.
“베트남에는 있는데 한국엔 없는 단어가 있다든지, 학교 수업이 아니기 때문
에 학생들의 직업군이나 연령층이 제각기 다를 때는 어려움이 있어요. 하지
만 열심히 하시는 분들이 많아 학습 이해도도 빠르고, 한 번 수강하신 분들은
다음 학기에도 계속 오시니 그때 보람을 느낍니다.”
이중언어강사 과정을 마치면 초등학교 방과 후 수업에 배정될 수 있지만, 당
분간은 국제교류센터에서 계속 강의하면서 본인의 역량을 키우고 싶다는 김
토아 강사. 그녀의 2014년도 역시 바쁘고 보람찰 것이다.
Toa Kim, who has been married and living in Korea for the past
10 years, leads a busy life these days. Once a student attending
Korean classes offered at the Daejeon International Center
herself, she started volunteering to teach Vietnamese through
the recommendation of a staff member. As well as working as a
mediator for domestic issues in multicultural families through
the Korea Immigration Service Department, she is currently
finishing her certification as a bilingual instructor at Hannam
University.
“It can be difficult at times, such as when we come across certain
Vietnamese words that do not exist in Korean, and especially
since the students come from very different walks of life as this
is not a regular school class. However, when students become
very interested in the language and make great progress and
continue to attend the classes each semester that makes it all
very worthwhile.”
Once Toa finishes her bilingual instructor certification she will be
able to start leading after-school language classes at elementary
schools right away, but says that her intentions are to continue
to teach at the Daejeon International Center and improve on
her capabilities as an educator. It’s easy to predict that 2014 will
continue to be a busy and eventful year for Toa.

즐거운 베트남어 시간
Funny Vietnamese Classes

처음 베트남어 수업이 개설됐을 때 저녁 시간인데다가 중국어나 일본어만큼 대중
화된 외국어 강좌가 아니라, 수강생이 많지는 않았다. 하지만 ‘일당백’이라고 했던
가, 본토인의 베트남어 발음을 녹음해 갖고 다니면서 열심히 공부하시는 수강생부
터 베트남 여행에서 겪은 에피소드를 이야기하며 강의실 분위기를 돋우는 수강생
까지 배움을 향한 열정이 한두 명씩 강의실을 채우기 시작했다.
취재진이 방문했을 때 김토아 강사는 음료수를 활용해 회화 연습을 유도했다. 사

칼바람을 마다않고 국제교류센터를
찾고 있다.

이렇게 재미있는 수업이 기다리고 있어 수강생들은 오늘도 겨울의 매서운 칼바람
을 마다않고 국제교류센터를 찾고 있다. 곧 종강이지만 또 다음 학기에 만날 것을
알기에 끝나는 아쉬움은 덜하다. 내년에 Hẹn gặp lại(또 만나요)!
At the time of its establishment, Toa’s classes initially had few
students due to its late night class schedule and lack of interest in
the language, as opposed to the popularity of Japanese or Mandarin
Chinese. Toa’s persistence eventually paid off however, with some

diligent students making audio recordings of Toa’s
native Vietnamese accent to study further and others
exchanging entertaining stories from their own trips to
Vietnam in class. Her classroom began to fill up with
enthusiastic and attentive students eager to learn the
language.
At the time of her interview Toa was leading a class
using beverages to promote class participation. While
teaching her class words such as nước tạo(apple juice),
cà phê(coffee), and beer (bia) Toa started describing in
detail the fragrant aroma of strong Vietnamese coffee
and the heady taste of Hanoi beer and for a moment it
was as if the entire classroom had been transported
to Vietnam. Given Toa’s natural gift for conveying and
communicating concepts and ideas, it is easy to see
why her students continue to attend her classes at the
Daejeon International Center, undeterred by the windy
winter weather.
Though the current semester of classes has come to an
end, students will be able to take comfort in the fact that
they see each other again when classes resume next

Hanultari (One Fence) Volunteer Group of Multicultural and
Korean Language Education Department, Gyonyang Cyber University

지난 2012년 처음 신입생을 받은 건양사이버대 다문화한국어학과에는 배움을 행동으로 실천하고 있는
따뜻한 사람들이 있다. 바로 다문화한국어과 재학생으로 구성된 봉사동아리인 한울타리 봉사단.
우리사회에 마중물이 되어 우리 모두가 꿈꾸는 세상을 그리고 있는 한울타리 봉사단을 만나보았다.
There are warm-hearted people who put learning into action in the Multicultural and Korean
Language Education Department of Gyonyang Cyber University. They are the Hanultari (One
Fence) Volunteer Group consisting of the students from the Multicultural and Korean Language
Education Department. Let’s meet the Hanultari Volunteer Group that wants to actas the
lifeblood of our society and envision the world that we all are dreaming of.

한울타리 봉사단 구성원은 대부분 다문화가정에 필요한 한국

대전에 온 지 얼마 되지 않은 베트남 유학생 카오 휘엔 장
씨는 “짧은 동안이지만 대전의 평온한 분위기와 잠재된 아
름다움은 저한테 강렬한 인상을 주었습니다.”라고 기자에
게 고백한다.
경영학 석사과정을 위하여 2011년 처음 한국에 왔고, 남
편과 함께 올해 8월에 대전으로 이사왔다. 서울에서 2년
동안 유학 생활을 해본 경험이 있는 카오 휘엔 장씨는 서
울의 능동적인 리듬에 비해 산에 둘러싸여 평온함을 자아
내는 과학도시 대전의 분위기가 사뭇 다르다는 것을 느꼈
다고 한다.
그 차이는 과연 무엇일까? 그리고 장씨가 가장 강렬하게
인상 받았던 것은 무엇일까?
“유성구 신성동에 살고 있는 저는 집 근처에 있는 유성온
천이 대전에서 가 본 첫 관광명소입니다. 베트남에는 자연
온천의 목욕탕이 없는데, 유성 온천에서 목욕을 하면 피부
의 촉촉한 느낌이 너무나 좋습니다. 베트남에서 친구들이
오면 꼭 데려가곤 하죠.”

A Vietnamese student, Cao Huyen Trang,
who has not been in Daejeon long, confessed,
“It has not been long since I came here, but
I am very impressed with Daejeon’s tranquil
atmosphere and potential beauty.”
Ms. Trang came to Korea to pursue a
master’s degree in business management
in 2011. However, she moved to Daejeon
this August due to her personal situation.
As she had two years of studying and living
experience in Seoul, she could tell the
difference between dynamic rhythm of Seoul
and the unique air of the science city located
in a mountainous region.Now, what could
that difference be? Let us talk about what
Ms. Trang has felt about the city of Daejeon:
“It is located in Yuseong-Gu. The Yuseong
Hot Springs near my house was the first
tourist attraction I went to in Daejeon. It was
a great experience, and I am sure I will be
coming to the hot springs again. I strongly
recommend people to come and visit the

The Yuseong Hot Springs’ Foot Bath Spa is
open from 7a.m. to 11p.m. It is a place for
everyone, from elderly women who will take
a 30-minute trip by bus early in the morning,
to mountain hikers after a long day of hiking,
to citizens of Daejeon, to foreign visitors.
The average number of people visiting the
hot springs is more than 500 people a day
during weekdays and amounts to more than
1,000 people during the weekends.

Chopsticks Etiquette of the World
한국, 중국, 일본, 베트남 등 동아시아권을 중심으로 발달한 젓가락 문화.
각 나라마다 젓가락 예절도 가지각색이죠. 자칫 잘못하면 크나 큰 실례를
범할 때도 있습니다. 이것만은 절대적으로 요주의!
A culture of chopsticks developed across East Asia, including in Korea,
China, Japan and Vietnam. But the etiquette of chopsticks differs in each
culture. Improperly used chopsticks could send a rude message and become
a source of misunderstanding. The following tips are “Must-Don’ts” for you
to keep in mind!

일본 젓가락 예절 금기 사항
➊ 젓가락에서 젓가락으로 다른 사람에게 음식을 건네는 것
을 금합니다. 일본에서는 시체를 화장하고 난 뒤, 유골을 옆
사람에게 전달할 때 젓가락을 사용해서 옮깁니다. 그래서

Traditionally, in Japan, the ashes of a cremated
body are passed on to the next person using
chopsticks. As a result, foreigners must be careful
not to use chopsticks to pass food to another person
at the table.
➋ Moving plates using chopsticks is unacceptable
as well. This is because such behavior could
suggest feelings of listlessness and discontent.
Therefore, when moving containers or dishes
holding food, you have to use your hands.

➊ 베트남에서도 젓가락으로 음식을 건네는 것을 금합니다. “Chuyen dua
(쭈엔 두어)”는 줍다, 습득하다는 의미의 언어로 식사 중에 음식을 젓가락으
로 건네주고 건네받으면 안 된다는 뜻도 가지고 있습니다. 이처럼 젓가락
금기사항에 관한 언어가 있을 정도로 베트남의 식사예절이 엄격합니다.
➋ 식사할 때 밥에 젓가락을 꽂지 말아야 합니다. (한국, 일본, 중국, 베트
남의 공통사항) 밥에 젓가락을 꽂아두는 것은 제사 지낼 때, 망자에게 밥
을 올리는 모양과 비슷하기 때문입니다.

Vietnam’s Chopsticks Etiquette Taboos
➊ It is forbidden to pass food using chopsticks in Vietnam
as well.The word “Chuyendua” means “to pick up, find and
acquire,” implying that food should not be passed to others using
chopsticks. Vietnam seems to have strict table manners, to have
dedicated words for chopsticks etiquette!
➋ You should never stick chopsticks vertically in a bowl of rice.
(This has a similar meaning in most of East Asian countries,
including Korea, Japan, China and Vietnam.) Sticking chopsticks
vertically into a bowl of rice suggests ancestral rites when the
food prepared is served to the spirit of the deceased.

➊ When setting the table, you should not place chopsticks
crisscrossed on the table. This is because such a setting may hint at
a negative meaning against guests at the table. Such table manners
have originated from criminals signing an X as a symbol of confession
after going though torture at government offices in the past.
➋ It could also be taken as rudeness to drop your chopsticks at the
table. This is because such misconduct is thought to awaken and
surprise the spirits of ancestors buried in the ground. When you have
dropped chopsticks by mistake, you must make an apology and pick up
the chopsticks.

수십만 개의 전구와 눈 조각들이 어두운 겨울을 밝히고 있다.
2010년에 대전과 자매결연을 맺은 도시, 삿포로는 홋카이도의 대표적인 관광지이자

삿포로 시내를 걷다 보면 아름다운 건축물들을 만날 수 있다. 삿포로역 남쪽 출구 앞에 서 있는 JR 타워는 그 위
용부터 관광객의 시선을 사로잡는다. 지상 38층, 높이 173m의 이 타워는 수많은 기업의 사무실을 비롯해 호텔,
잡화점, 옷가게, 미용실 등 즐길 거리가 다양해 작은 도시에 온 듯 그 규모가 방대하다. JR 타워의 백미는 38층에
위치한 전망대로 이곳에 서면 삿포로 시내를 한눈에 감상할 수 있다. 삿포로를 발아래 두고 두 손을 벌리면 마치
구름 위를 걷는 듯한 신비로운 경험을 할 수 있다.
또한 일본의 중요문화재로 등록되어 있는 시계탑 또한 놓쳐서는 안 될 포인트. 유럽의 아름다운 건축물을 연상시
키는 시계탑과 텔레비탑은 삿포로의 아름다운 야경을 만드는데 한 몫 톡톡히 한다. JR 타워와 마찬가지로 텔레비

뭐니뭐니해도 삿포로 하면 빠질 수 없는 것, 바로 맥주이다. 삿포로는 맥주박물관을 세워 깨끗하고 신선한 맥주
의 제조공정을 일반인들에게 투명하게 공개하고 있다. 삿포로 맥주의 역사와 원료 등을 영상으로 전시하고 있는
데 처음 방문하는 방문객도 삿포로 맥주를 쉽게 이해할 수 있어 연일 방문객의 발길이 끊이지 않는다.

Walking in downtown Sapporo, you can see beautiful
buildings. With its splendor, JR Tower, in front of the south
exit of Sapporo Station, draws tourists’ attention.This
38-story tower, with a height of 173 meters, boasts offices
of a large number of companies, a hotel, a general stores,
clothing stores, and beauty shops. You can enjoy various
things in JR Tower. At the observatory on the 38th floor,
which is the highlight ofthe tower, you can enjoy the stunning
view of downtown Sapporo. With your arms outstretched and
Sapporo at your feet, you can have a magical experience,
feelingas if you walk on the clouds.
Also, the clock tower, designated as an important cultural
property, is the must-visit tourist site. The clock tower and
Sapporo TV Tower, recalling beautiful buildings in Europe,
play an important role in creating the gorgeous night scene
of Sapporo. As from JR Tower, you can enjoy the beautiful
night scene of Sapporo from the TV Tower.
When all is said and done, one thing that cannot be missed
in Sapporo is the beer. Sapporo has a beer museum to show
the clean and fresh beer brewing process to ordinary people.
The museum includes videos and images showing the
history and ingredients of Sapporo beer, enabling first-time
visitors to understand Sapporo beer easily and making this
place very popular for tourists.

What exactly is the Daejeon International Center?

대전광역시 국제교류센터는 대전시에 거주하는 외국인의 정착과 문화적응의 지원, 각종 정보제공 및 편의를
도모하고, 시민의 국제화와 민간기구의 국제화 역량을 강화함으로써 국제도시로서 대전의 위상을 높이기 위해
설립된 국제교류 기관입니다.
The Daejeon International Center was founded as an organization to promote international
exchanges in order to strengthen the city of Daejeon’s status as an international city by
supporting the globalization of citizens and local community organizations in the city of Daejeon.
