 You will also write about what you read. (teachers will

  • 3. Regular Program challenges  Many new ideas given  Many new words to learn  High expectations for understanding  Difficult assignments  Difficult exams (in class and provincial)  Be able to talk about intelligent ideas  Be able to write about many topics

BEHAVIOUR IN THE CLASSROOM The best way to be successful  Follow the rules  Be respectful and kind  Take responsibility for your learning  Ask your teacher many questions  Help other students  Do your homework  With a partner: Tell your partner three nice things about them, ask your partner three questions  What did you do yesterday?  What are favourite foods?  What makes you happy?
  • 5. ATTENDANCE  To do well in your classes,  please come to class everyday = good marks  Skipping = detention  Skipping = meet with Assistance Principal
  • 6. CHEATING AND PLAGIARISM  Don’t copy from another student  Don’t copy from the internet  Don’t copy from a book  Don’t cheat on an exam  Cite any work that is not your own  If you cheat or plagiarize: zero marks, meet with Assistant Principal, we will tell your parents,
  • 7. USING A COMPUTER IN THE CLASSROOM  Only use your computer if your teacher tells you to Reasons to use the computer:  Write a paragraph or essay  Research information  Look in a dictionary  Prepare a presentation  Do not look on facebook, play games, or watch your own videos in class

ENGLISH ONLY POLICY- Speak English  English will improve faster if you speak English  You will make more friends  It is polite to speak English  Teachers expect English Only in the classroom  Exercise: Student A talks about picture one Student B listens Switch for picture two(3 minutes each)

  • 11. AEP Reading Homework  All AEP students will read for 30 minutes every day.  You will also write about what you read. (teachers will tell you what they want)  Literature classes May 4-29  Social Science classes June 1-26  Academic Writing classes June 26 – July 17

WHY IS READING IMPORTANT?  Read many books in your free time  This will build vocabulary FAST  This will help you KNOW the best grammar to use  This will give you new ideas  This will train you to read FASTER  This will help you learn about North American culture  This will help you get higher marks on your exams
  • 13. READING CHECKLIST  Read for pleasure everyday  Read again, the stories you read in class  Correct all assignments for in class reading  Ask yourself who, what, where, when, and why (as you are reading)
  • 14. SPEAKING CHECKLIST  Ask questions in class  Use new grammar when you speak  Speak to your friends in English  Use new words when you speak  Practice presentations  Practice pronunciation  Talk to your counselor in English

LISTENING AND BODY LANGUAGE CHECKLIST  Listen carefully to your teacher  Listen and participate in conversations  Listen to recorded text over and over  Get an audio book from the public library  Listen to the TV news  Learn body language  Exercise: listen actively vs pretend listening demo and practice
