The ZL1 name was chosen for its historical significance. ZL1 is derived from the ZL1 all-aluminum racing
engine developed in the late sixties and installed into a handful of regular-production 1969 Camaros. Only
69 were built and have since achieved mythical status among enthusiasts—a position that the 2012 ZL1 is
destined to retain with pride.
