- Google Analytics can track visitors from all referrers, including search engines and social networks, direct visits and referring sites. It also displays advertising, pay-per-click networks, email marketing and digital collateral such as links within PDF documents.Google bought the company Urchin in 2005 and adopted their analytics software. The Google-branded version was rolled out in November 2005 to anyone who wished to sign up. Demand was so high they had to limit the users and went to a method of sign up by invitation only. That lasted until August of 2006. Then it was available to anyone who wanted to use it.No-one knows exactly how much Google paid for Urchin back in 2005, but the general consensus was somewhere in the region of US $30m.
