were associated with breastfeeding continuation at
both 2 and 12 weeks (Table 2). Lack of support from
the father for breastfeeding, as reported during the
2-week interview, was associated with breastfeeding
discontinuation at 2 weeks but not at 12 weeks.
Among the 1007 mothers who initiated breastfeed-
ing, 476 (47%) had returned to work or school by the
12-week interview. Returning to work or school was
1 of the strongest predictors of breastfeeding discon-
