2. Why Organic Grass Fed Beef?
Our organic cattle are raised without antibiotics, growth-stimulating
hormones or fed animal source protein. In compliance with the Organic
Standard, our organic cattle have been raised on pasture all of their lives,
are never fed anything but organic pasture grasses, which are "certified
organic" and meet a multitude of strict criteria.
Our organic grass fed cattle eat what nature designed them to eat,
insuring their health and yours.
Benefits of Organic Grass Fed Beef
A recent comprehensive study conducted by the USDA and
researchers from Clemson University found that compared with
corn-fed beef, grass-fed beef is higher in beta-carotene, vitamin
E, omega-3s, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), calcium,
magnesium and potassium; and lower in saturated fats that
have been linked to heart disease.
3. What is Mad Cow Disease (BSE) and how is it spread?
Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), frequently called Mad Cow Disease, is a
degenerative neurological disease affecting the central nervous system of cattle. BSE
affects older cattle, typically over 30 months of age.
According to the latest science, BSE does not spread from animal to animal; the only
way BSE spreads is through contaminated protein supplements in cattle feed
such as animal source protein.
Our Organic Cattle are raised without antibiotics, growth-stimulating hormones
or fed animal source protein in compliance with the Organic Standard.
Certified Organic vs. Natural Beef, What is the Difference?
Natural Beef is more commonly seen in the grocery stores now, but one needs to
know that natural does not mean certified organic. The USDA has defined natural
as "No artificial ingredients and minimally processed." Thanks to this somewhat
loose definition the term 'natural' has been widely abused and can mislead the
consumer.
4. U.S. organic sales grow by a whopping 17.1 percent in 2008
While the overall economy has been losing ground, sales of organic
products reflect very strong growth during 2008. “Organic products
represent value to consumers, who have shown continued resilience
in seeking out these products,” said Christine Bushway, OTA’s
Executive Director.
The survey, conducted by Lieberman Research Group on behalf of OTA,
measured the growth of U.S. sales of organic foods and beverages as well
as non-food categories such as organic fibers, personal care products and
pet foods during 2008. Results show organic food sales grew in 2008
by 15.8 percent to reach $22.9 billion, while organic non-food sales grew
by an astounding 39.4 percent to reach $1.648 billion. As a result, organic
food sales now account for approximately 3.5 percent of all food
product sales in the United States.
The Organic Trade Association (OTA) is the membership-based business association for organic agriculture and products in North America. Its 1,600
members include growers, shippers, processors, certifiers, farmers' associations, distributors, importers, exporters, consultants, retailers and others.
OTA's mission is to promote and protect the growth of organic trade to benefit the environment, farmers, the public and the economy (www.ota.com).
