2. Style of Trailer
• I plan to make a teaser trailer lasting around
60-90 seconds. This will allow me to create a
trailer that is very suggestive allowing the
audience to create their own ideas about the
film. I think this is the most effective style of
trailer because it allows the use of camera
shots and editing to influence the audience in
a very simplistic fashion.
3. Perplexity
This is going to be the name of the film, I chose
this because it has a meaning which will link
closely with the film’s plot and is very suggestive
of what will happen.
Definition of Perplexity:
1. Inability to deal with or understand
something complicated or unaccountable.
2. A complicated or baffling situation or thing
4. Plot
• William J. Scott, a Detective, is given what he
thinks is an average job within his trade.
However, the job becomes more complicated
than he could ever imagine when the people
he knows and trusts become involved in this
perplex situation.
5. Characters
• William J. Scott – Protagonist, played by Michael Hepplewhite.
A detective who becomes involved in work which deems him
left in a difficult situation. William has facial hair to reflect his
rugged life but values his job highly, for him, his job is
everything.
• Bonnie Fredericks – Femme fatale, played by Erin Davies. A
woman who always gets what she wants, she is unpredictable
and has one foot in everybody’s business. She is known to use
her good looks and vast intelligence to compromise even the
strongest of men.
8. Inspiration
I have watched many films in order to come up with my
plots and characters, some of these include:
• Shutter Island
• The Machinist
• Public Enemies
• Sin City
I recognise that majority of these films are neo-noir
rather than Noir itself but, I think, these days it is
better to look and consider how these films are made
as I will be working with the same kind of technology
as these neo-noir films
9. Key scenes
• My key scenes will be very suggestive, little
action will take place as I intend to make the
editing very fast, however, to really enhance
the Noir genre I will be including:
• A character looking through a set of blinds
• A character in a bathroom with mirrors
• There will be shadowed walls with the use of
chirascuro lighting
