Your landlord decides to terminate the tenancy earlier than
specified in the agreement?
He cannot force you to move out!
He can only recover possession through court proceedings.
4. The right to claim Housing Benefit

a.k.a Local Housing Allowance (LHA)
The landlord must notify you of this right in the rent
book.
5. The right to a Rent Book

A standard rent book includes:
● name and address of the landlord
● the rent to be paid
● when it is due
● details of any other payments you should make
6. The right to proper notice to quit

Landlords must provide tenants with a minimum of
28 days written notice to quit
7. The right to freedom from
harassment and illegal eviction

Harrassing are considered actions such as:
● cutting off the water / electricity supply
● changing the locks
● meddling in your belongings
● threatening verbal / physical behaviour
8. Before leaving the property, tenants should:
● Return all key sets
● Arrange the final inspection and return of deposit with your landlord
● In case you’re claiming LHA, notify your local Housing Executive office
that you are changing address
● Arrange to have your mail sent to the new address
● Record the meter readings (most preferably in the presence of your
landlord)
● Advise all service suppliers that you are leaving
● Clean the property thoroughly in order to receive the full deposit back
