1. The document discusses using laser cutting and press-fitting techniques to assemble functional furniture and models from small pieces of wood.
2. A table design is presented that uses press-fitting to join four main parts - two rectangular bases (a and b), a circular top (c), and a circular glass top (d).
3. Additional exercises explore using different shapes, like circles and arrows, press-fitted together to represent movement and direction, with the goal of combining eight pieces in different configurations.

Laser-cut press-fit furniture design
1. Cutting 1
using laser cutter
Press-fit:
● Exersice 1
-Furniture/Table
● The idea is to made a functional design using small
amount of pieces which I extended it from 3 to four.
I have made this table design for 1:1 scale which is
showen in the 3D model/with 3D max/ but for the
● model scaled 1:5 have used plywood showing the press fit.
2. ● Joining/press fit
● The different parts to assemble are four; on the
1st step fixing a and b; 2 -larger circular top/C
and finally on stage3-the top/d. For the actual product I
● am planning to addstep4-1 glass top (equal rad. with d).
* I am planning to develop this idea more.

● Motion representing shapes
The idea of this press fitting is to experiment on the different shapes which coherent and be read
together. This is a part which comes out of something which stands alone and be read together.
The best shape I found to use this is circular and directional arrow. Since our laser cutter cuts flat
pieces I want it to be viewed from one direction. Within 8 main peaces sub circles/excluding the
supportive shapes I tried to combine 8 pieces.
5. The base construction:
● The shapes suggest movement. In addition what I wanted to show is the directions, which
here I suggested 8 directions to be assembled. They can be read as all together or they
can be seen as a whole.
6. Options and probability
● Here still no screw and no glue but the press fit method connects all. When
the two piece's colors be changed they make connection between them and
unite them as one. If we use two pieces at a time we can have 56 options.
When used different color for each face it can be multiplied by two /112.I
want to leave it as is because I don’t want to restrict the idea, so by trying
anything movable which could be found in nature have any possibilities.
7. Pictures from-Snow crystal.com
If we subtract the two pieces from left and right we will find hexagonal shape which lightens it
up just like snow crystal. These shapes suggests non-end movement.
8. ● Stage 1:
The top two rectangles attached by press fit with
different techniques like I have used on the table top.
Stage2- would be piercing the triangle to fit the
cylinderical shape, the third one is connecting the base to
the top. At last fitting the sub shapes to each branch.
The last stage is the users preference, to match 2 shapes
at a time and play with it.
