A student athlete, Benjamin Knott is a member of Furman University’s baseball club. In 2013, Benjamin Knott played a vital role in helping the team reach the national championship tournament.

In June of 2014, the Furman Paladins announced
Brett Harker as the baseball club’s new pitching
coach. A former pitcher, Brett Harker came from
Newberry College in South Carolina, where he had
served as assistant coach of the baseball team. The
coach’s baseball career began at Hillcrest High
School. An all-star athlete with multiple most-valuable-
player (MVP) honors, he accepted an
athletic scholarship to the College of Charleston.

3.  During college, he played 78 games and set a
career win-loss record of 14-6 with an earned-run
average (ERA) of 4.08. In addition, he broke
the school’s saves record with 15 saves in one
season. Harker also received the SoCon Pitcher
of the Year Award and the Louisville Slugger
All-American Award. He then entered the
Major League Baseball draft following his junior
year. He was drafted by the Philadelphia
Phillies and remained part of the ball club for
four years. He also played for the Florida
Marlins, the Northern League Schaumburg
Flyers, and the Lincoln Saltdogs.
