Students will connect numerals to the quantities they represent. <br />h. Identify coins by name and value (penny, nickel, dime, and quarter). <br />i. Count out pennies to buy items that together cost less than 30 cents. <br />j. Make fair trades using combinations involving pennies and nickels and pennies and dimes. <br />M1N1. Students will estimate, model, compare, order, and represent whole numbers up to 100. <br />e. Exchange equivalent quantities of coins by making fair trades involving combinations of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters up to one dollar; count out a combination of coins needed to purchase items up to one dollar. <br />Summary: <br />In A Dollar for Penny, Penny opens a pink lemonade stand. She originally prices her lemonade at one penny per glass of pink lemonade. Each day that Penny accrues more business, she ups her price to two cents, a nickel, a dime, a quarter, and fifty cents. She finally has enough money to buy her mother a birthday card for a dollar. I think that this book is appropriate for first grade. Parts of it can be modified to fit kindergarten. <br />A Dollar for Penny- Kindergarten This activity should be accompanied by cut out coins (see attached).
