2. Start up
• Clemson traffic situation
– 80,000+ fans on game days
– 1 main hwy leading into campus
• Navigation can be a gauntlet
– Road blocks
– One way traffic
• Clemson distributes the most parking placards
than any school in the ACC
3. Real game= communication through
email (tech. writing)
• Truth
– Not much effort needed to create and distribute
map
– Most of effort comes from finding who to write
and waiting for responses
• Many times most effective method to cut
through the wait is to make a visit in person
– E-mails horrible in time efficiency
– E-mails impersonal
4. Pros and Cons of e-mail
• Pros-
– Easy to find someone
– Simple to write and send
– Fast process
• Cons-
– E-mails that are easy to find are usually slow to
respond
– Procrastination is the name of the game
5. Process
• Step 1
– Idea
• 1st idea
– Book exchange
» Fizzled out after lack of support
• 2nd idea
– Tigerstripe at Wal-mart
» Went sour after Iptay proved impossible to reach
• Final idea
– Clemson traffic map
» Successful because we went “the extra mile” to get to the
right people and gain their attention quickly
(due process joke)
6. Decided- Game day Plan
• During game weeks those in charge of Game-
day traffic are extremely busy
– Needed a week where CUPD and SC highway
patrol were not extremely busy planning for the
weekend
• Away game
• Wake Forest
(2 wins+ 1 loss came of this)
Save Clemson swimming!
7. Personal Project-
• It was up to me to get our map put on the
Clemson University athletic web site and on
the City of Clemson website
– 1 success
• Connections through athletics = quick response
– 1 Failure
• Easy- to- find emails take their time responding
– (if at all)
8. “easy to use” and “highly effective”
“If you’re looking for a
conversation with a
representative, you should
talk to that drop box in the
corner” -30 Rock
9. Better use of time
• Contact Chris Ip;
– Head coach of swimming and diving
• Conversation noted on “Needed to Get Foot in Door”
File
“Head Coach Christopher Ip has put his
fingerprints all over the Clemson Swimming and
Diving programs during his first six seasons.
Since joining Clemson in 2002-03, Ip has led
both the men's and women's programs among
the most well-rounded in the country. Ip's
programs routinely score highly in the pool and
the classroom. “

traffic flow
