Overview: Students will write a brief research review (5-7 pages double spaced) on a topic of their choosing, so long as it relates directly to Cognitive Psychology. This review must include a minimum of 5 peer-reviewed research articles. The paper is due on Friday, December 8th. Topics Perception Attention Memory Knowledge Language Decision Making Final Paper Example Topics: To what degree are cognitive processes shared across music and language? What are the types of cognitive processes that contribute to creating false memories? What are the best study strategies for doing well in a college course? *Must write topic in your own words, don’t plagiarize these examples* Topic Address your topic using peer reviewed research articles. Articles that contain research experiments Review articles cannot be included in these 5, but can use review article as an additional source Where to find articles? PsycInfo Peer reviewed Research Summarize the articles in your paper. What did the researchers do (i.e. methods)? What did they find (i.e. results)? What does this tell us about your topic? Connect articles to make an argument. How do these articles inform one another, and the topic at large? Example *Published* Review paper: Peretz, Vuvan, Lagrois, & Armony (2016) Not the same expectation for the final paper, but gives you a sense of structure for a review paper. Peer reviewed Research Plagiarism Everything must be in your own words Refrain from using direct quotes Third person point of view/ formal writing Do not use contractions (e.g. don’t, can’t) 12 point font, Times New Roman, double spaced Paper mechanics What is it? American Psychological Association (APA) style A writing style used in the social sciences Used to cite sources. Why is it important? Need to give credit to authors who developed original ideas If these are not your own ideas, need to cite! Otherwise, you are plagiarizing Also lets reader know what works you are referring to Reduces ambiguity APA Format How to use it? In text citations: When you refer to author’s name(s) within a sentence: According to Jones (1998), APA style is a difficult citation format for first-time learners. When you don’t refer to author’s name(s) within a sentence, but you refer to their ideas. APA style is a difficult citation format for first-time learners (Jones, 1998). APA Format Multiple authors: 2 authors Research by Wegener and Petty (1994) supports... (Wegener & Petty, 1994) 3 to 5 authors Research by Kernis and colleagues (1993) supports (Kernis, Cornell, Sun, Berry, & Harlow, 1993) (Kernis et al., 1993) 6 or more authors Harris et al. (2001) argued... (Harris et al., 2001) APA Format References Need to include a reference list Berndt, T. J. (2002). Friendship quality and social development. Current Directions in Psychological Science, 11, 7-10. Use hanging paragraph Author(s): Last name and then initials. Date Title: Only first .

Annotate means to ‘make a note’, and biblio refers to ‘book’. In the 21 st century students consult much more but still including books: e.g. websites, journals (hardcopy and electronic), newspapers and so on. Simply stated, an annotated bibliography is a list of sources or citations with a brief evaluative summary (annotation) about each source. Its purpose is to describe and evaluate the source text in a way that allows the reader to decide whether or not to read the work itself. Terminology Source whatever material you have used for your topic; for example, journal articles, electronic sources, books or chapters of books Citation gives the precise bibliographical information needed to locate the material; it is the same as a list of references and is placed in alphabetical order Annotation follows each citation, and is a note that explains, describes and/or evaluates the cited source. Annotations are normally no more than 50 to 150 words The purpose of an annotated bibliography An annotated bibliography is not a simple summary of each source text. Annotations are descriptive and critical, with the aim of informing the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources (books, journal articles, etc) cited. In general the annotation is to inform. Specific purposes may be to: review the literature on a particular subject illustrate the quality of your research provide examples of sources available describe other items on a topic that may be of interest to the reader explore the subject for further research. How to write the annotation 1. Locate and record citations to books, periodicals, and documents that may contain useful information and ideas on your topic. 2. Cite the book, article or document, using the appropriate referencing style. At CSU this is usually the APA style. For example: Jones, B. (2008). Colonial Paintings in NSW Art Galleries. Sydney: Angus & Robertson. 3. State the authority or background of the author. 4. Comment on the intended audience and degree of reading difficulty. 5. Explain the main purpose of the text. jseage botton blank jseage botton blank jseage square black CSU Learning Skills: your link to success http://www.csu.edu.au/division/studserv/learning © 2008 Find Self-help Resources at: http://www.csu.edu.au/division/studserv/learning/student_resources 6. Identify the main points of the text. 7. Clarify the standpoint of the author in relation to his/her thesis or theme. 8. Explain how this text adds to a fuller understanding of your topic. 9. My degree is an EDD in Performance Improvement Leadership Assignment Overview In the assignment this week, you will write a paper (7–10 pages), including a literature review, that examines ethical behavior, diversity, and civil discourse in the context of your particular focus and specialization. What You Need to Know Ethical Reasoning Morris (2016) tells us: In fall 2016, more than twenty million students enrolled across more than four million colleges and universities in the U.S. One in four students were members of a minority group, and approximately one million were international students. These students interacted with approximately four million administrators and faculty and staff members in a diversity of settings. Most of these students will easily transition into a life of academics and social interactions. For others, insults, aggressions, and lack of inclusion are a reality; and these experiences will shape their interactions and perceptions . . . on the challenges facing the nation and world and considering the role that post-secondary education plays in improving civil discourse nationally and creating safe spaces for dialogue and personal growth. (p. 361) Morris (2016) goes on to argue: First, [we must] identify resources to support conversations around civil discourse, social justice, and inclusion. Could we individually and collectively in every department, college, and administrative unit resolve to make a difference—to role-model and ask our students to be kind, show compassion, be inclusive and fair, and extend a hand of friendship? Maybe our academic words, like social justice, just do not resonate. Perhaps people forget that words have power and can cause long-lasting pain or can provide encouragement. While we may study and advocate for equity, perhaps we should say that this campus and my class will discuss challenging topics; but we will be characterized by the following values: to listen, to reflect, to show compassion, to think critically, and to care about this community of learners. I know: it sounds like Robert Fulghum’s All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten (1988). However, sometimes simple guidelines work best. (p. 361) Use your Critical Thinking text to quickly review the following: Chapter 14, "Develop As an Ethical Reasoner," pages 345–365. If you did not complete the Blooming Park: Ethics, Diversity, and Personnel Selection simulation last week, complete it now to begin work on the interviews relevant to your organization: P–12 education, higher education, business or corporate, or military. This activity will give you the opportunity to grapple with the ethical questions that frequently arise in professional contexts, which will be the focus of your assignment this week. Diversity and Multiculturalism Diversity in all organization settings can take many forms. We may consider differences across many criteria, including the following: Ethnicity. Ethnic identity. Gend.

Rubric For The Evaluation Of “Studying Religion” Paper CRITERIA NEEDS IMPROVEMENT Minimum Points SATISFACTORY Medium Points EXCEPTIONAL Maximum Points CONTENT (6 Points) Write a 750- to 1,050-word paper that addresses the following topics: · What is essential (in the practices and beliefs) for a tradition to be called a religion? · Illustrate your points by referring to the commonalities of the three Western religions. · How do different fields of study approach religion? · What are some critical issues in the academic study of religion? The writer does not demonstrate cursory understanding of subject matter, and the purpose of the paper is not stated. The objective, therefore, is not addressed and supporting materials are not correctly referenced. 0 to 2.4 points The writer demonstrates limited understanding of the subject matter in that theories are not well connected to a practical experience or appropriate examples, though the attempt to research the topic is evident, and materials are correctly referenced. 2.5 to 5.4 points The writer demonstrates an understanding of the subject matter by clearly stating the objective of the paper and links theories to practical experience. The paper includes relevant material that is correctly referenced, and this material fulfills the objective of the paper. 5.5 to 7 points Comments on Content ? of 7 points You have fulfilled all/most/some of the objectives of the assignment with this ___ word paper. You had a section on … ORGANIZATION ( 2 Points) Paragraphs do not focus around a central point, and concepts are disjointedly introduced or poorly defended (i.e., stream of consciousness). The writer struggles with limited vocabulary and has difficulty conveying meaning such that only the broadest, most general messages are presented. There is no introduction or conclusion. 0 to .5 points Topics/content could be organized in a more logical manner. Transitions from one idea to the next are often disconnected and uneven. The introduction does not give clear direction and the conclusion does not restate the main points and show how they explain the big idea. Some words, transitional phrases, and conjunctions are overused. Ideas may be overstated, and sentences with limited contribution to the subject are included. .6 to 1 points The writer focuses on ideas and concepts within paragraphs, and sentences are well-connected and meaningful. Each topic logically follows the objective. The introduction clearly states the objective or ideas leading to the purpose of the paper, and a conclusion draws the ideas together. The reading audience is correctly identified, demonstrated by appropriate language usage (i.e., avoiding jargon and simplifying complex concepts appropriately). Writing is concise, in active voice, and avoids awkward transitions and overuse of conjunctions. 1.1 to 1.5 points Comments on Organization ? of 1.5 points You do/do not have a clear organizational flow. You do/do no ...

Literature Reviews Planning and Writing Them 1 You’ve done the hard part! You did your secondary research with your annotated bibliography Now, take that research and compile it into a cohesive, useful narrative that explains the “conversation” around the topic you’re going to be looking into 2 What is a lit review? Lit reviews usually are at the beginnings of research articles Summarize the “conversation” on the subject and establish why your study is important Look at Zakreski article, Greene article – see in the beginning of their articles, they summarize and explain what others have had to say about the topic Your annotated bib should easily transition into what will be the first part of your paper, the literature review. Duggar has lots of citations; 16 in her bib. She talks about lots of different ideas here to lay the groundwork for what she is going to do Greene has fewer, but has more to say about them 3 Three functions of a lit review Your literature review will become the first part of your research paper. Thus, it should do three things: Include a short introduction that defines or identifies the general topic, issue, or area of concern, thus providing an appropriate context for reviewing the literature (this is called establishing a territory) Synthesize other research on the topic, explaining what is known about it Conclude by stating what is missing, what is controversial, what is not yet known, or what needs to be resolved in the discussion. This will provide the transition later to your own study and your research questions (this is called “establishing a niche”) 4 How do I write it? Your literature review should synthesize all the information from your annotated bibliography You can organize the information chronologically You can organize the information by topic by least-most recent studies or vice versa; clump everything by what was found, what 5 How do I write it, con’t Your lit review should have an intro, body, and conclusion This is not true of ALL lit reviews, but it is a good general rule to follow The intro will serve at the intro to your paper The body will establish the “conversation” The conclusion will serve to transition your paper into a discussion of your study The body can (and probably should) have multiple paragraphs, based on how you’ve organized it 6 About the conclusion In the conclusion, you want to establish why your study is important You need to somehow point out a gap in the knowledge, a question you have about other research, or a counter-point you want to raise If you can’t prove that your study authentically adds to the conversation, then you really shouldn’t be doing the research Leads to your methods section 7 Example lit reviews See the link on Isidore on the “Info on Lit Reviews” page, “Example Lit Review” From York College in New York – web.York.cuny.edu/~washton/student/Org-Behavior/lit_rev_eg.pdf Also see https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/res ...

Wizards are very useful for creating a good user experience. In all businesses, interactive sessions are most beneficial. To improve the user experience, wizards in Odoo provide an interactive session. For creating wizards, we can use transient models or abstract models. This gives features of a model class except the data storing. Transient and abstract models have permanent database persistence. For them, database tables are made, and the records in such tables are kept until they are specifically erased.
